Census for the last 40 years?

Ours here are by mail. The person only comes to the door if you're very delinquent in returning the form ... which we usually are ...

This time, 2006, there was a stink because the govt had outsourced the data processing to Lockheed Martin -- a US firm, therefore no guarantee of data protection, and of course Cdn taxpayer money spent abroad on something as national as a census.

I see someone has been prosecuted for refusing to file. We engaged in "minimum cooperation":

- filed on paper, not on line
- filed separate form for each person in household
- spilled coffee on the form
- wrote several sections upside down in the boxes for block letters so it could not be machine read

I want to be in the census, and I want everybody to be in the census, but I frankly don't want Lockheed Martin having my or anyone else's data.

Of course the worst part here is that now, unless you tick off the "yes" box, your personal info will not be disclosed ever, not even after 96 years. Well, I figure that's lots of time for people who didn't check the box to die and the law to be changed. ;)

When I did mine in 2001, I was pregnant with youngest and thought it was a shame she wouldn't be on it.
In 1991 my ex was an innumerator, He gave the forms out and collected them in and sorted them (well I did most of that to be honest). There was envelopes to send the forms in for those who didn't want the ennumerator to see their forms,
I don't know if this was standard for the whole country tho.
In 2001 it was postal for us too.

Thats the one Claire, it caused a lot of agro too because of the info they wanted people to add and if you didn't fill it in they were going to fine folk, I think it was £1000.

If my memory serves me right, it was done through the post in 1991, I don't remember anything for 2001.

Bet you all got a shock with that heading??

Anyway as you all know I live in Scotland, I have also lived in the same house for 40 years.
Not once have we had someone come round to do a census, we have however been sent forms from the local council office to complete and return for the census.
Don't they have people come round the doors doing census anymore??
