End of April I had a bad fall and in the words of the medical professsion did not break both my wrists but smashed them! Have plates, screws and wires. The swelling has been there since op 11 weeks ago and is impeding doing exercises with my RH.

I have to hot and cold bath hands alternately for 1 min each (10 min sessions) two or 3 times daily, then10min sessions of bag of frozen peas on hand. Last two visits to physio I have wax baths for both hands - just wondered if anyone had had glove treatment and if it worked.

Are the gloves tight?

I can see that working as would keep the pressure on!!

Oh dear Chris................I did the same thing to my right wrist 18 months ago.

The swelling took about 5 months to settle down...........some days were fine, other days I had swelling after using my hand for too long.

The physio said it can take months for it all to settle, it will get better, I promise you.

The swelling was so bad, it stretched the skin, so my right hand looks about 20 years older than my left one:( lol

Edit to add..............raising my arm so the elbow was higher than my shoulder was the best way to reduce the swelling.

Kitty, I spend a lot of the time when I am sitting with elbow propped up and arm stuck up like a periscope - first 9 days in hosp. I lay on my back with arms in foam cradles suspended from hoists - quite a performance when I needed loo! Gloves are not tight as that would increase swelling so I am told - so I am perplexed but doing as I am told! As long as I can get my independence back - I shall try and be patient and work hard at my bathing and exercises!!!

Hi Chris

Good to hear, firstly, that you are on the mend :O)

Are the gloves similar to the socks they make you wear in hosp to prevent blood clots ???

Can't say i've heard of them but the socks came to mind lol
