You have a very good point Eldrick,

Joyous, that subject turns my stomach, how can anyone actually defend it or give a reason for it??

I wish he knew what he was talking about before he opened his mouth!! Yet another case of wishy washy liberalism and a very poor attempt at getting Moslems on his side!!
'Adopting' Sharia'h law would be like insisting we all followed the laws of say, the Catholic Church even if we were Methodist or Protestant!
Not all Moslems follow the Sharia'h law, true a vast majority do - but not all.
Perhaps the Archbishop should practice his own religion to the full before deciding to incorporate others.

BTW - isn't he Gay? If so he could find life very difficult under Sharia'h law!!!!!! LOL

Kaz, hun, I too know the reasons, men afraid of a womans power to enjoy sex, instead of just being used. The thought of a woman allowing that to happen to her daughter is very disturbing.

Yet another one who is not fit for purpose.

He should shut his mouth when it comes to politics and get on with sorting out the church he was elected to govern, which as far as I can see is falling about his ears.

Perhaps the first thing he need to do is to get a decent shave and start to look as though he has some authority.

This "Sharia law" will not in any way make any difference to the law of the land.
its simply a way of solving minor differences between families, nothing more.
If a person feels that the Sharia court has not solved the problem in a satisfactory way they have a right to go to the courts of the land.

We will not see hands cut off or be headings!!

Having read this thread several times and doing a bit of research.....................I have changed from being kind of alright with the idea to now being totally against it.

I think!?!

I agree with what David Cameron says about it.

In his first formal public comments on the row earlier this month he said an introduction of Sharia law for Muslims "wouldn't strengthen our society - it would undermine it".

He said it would alienate others not subject to "preferential treatment", demoralise Muslims who embrace liberal values and would provide "succour" to separatists.

Mr Cameron also criticised what he called "state multiculturalism" saying it allowed and encouraged people to "live separate lives, apart from each other and apart from the mainstream".

"I believe that state multiculturalism is a wrong-headed doctrine that has had disastrous results.

"It has fostered difference between communities and it has stopped us from strengthening our collective identity. Indeed it has deliberately weakened it."

He said any expansion of Sharia law was the "logical endpoint of the now discredited doctrine of state multiculturalism, seeing people merely as followers of certain religions, rather than individuals in their own right within a common community".

He hits the nail on the head for me xx
ETA I have to say he doesn't always manage to lol xx

Muffy,

I think that your last post makes the point for very many of us. Well done.

What I can't understand is why we continually have to come up with an answer for a problem which never existed in the first place.

Joy, I know it still goes on... it is sooo dreadful, isn't it? I lived in your neck of the woods for a while, so am very aware... but it was here in S Wales that I first came across it in 1994. It wasn't illegal then, and was still being debated as one of the cultural differences and practices that perhaps we should be looking at accepting! I was absolutely horrified.

I was invited into the *Black and Asian* study group, lol, as a result of my outspoken views on it!!

There is still some way to go, but at least it is now against the law, and punishable within it, when detected.

Kitty, lol.... I know what you mean.... but opinions are formed by looking at everything, all the evidence, and then taking it from there... some of my views are quite contradictory, I know, as I have a tendency to use my emotions and not my brain, lol

I still believe that eventually some bits of sharia law will creep into our laws.... take the ten commandments... thou shalt not kill... well, that's against the law!! Except of course in certain circumstances !! But it forms a part of religious tenet... doesn't make it bad!

Eldrick and Peter, I so agree, religious leaders should keep their heads firmly in their own affairs.... and they are arguing about those, and the rights of women, so how on earth would they successfully maintain law and order in the general population heaven only knows!

I think that sharia law in Britain, if it does happen, will happen in the same way that the Jewish one (can't remember the name of it offhand*) currently happens.

Apart from the really brutal stuff, does anyone know anything about sharia Law? I'd be interested to see how it compares... especially as so many Muslims have different views themselves... it seems to be implemented at a very local level!

Love

Daff xxxx

Edit... Muffy that was brilliant..... but call me defeatist or what... I am against it coming in, but tend to feel that the tide is slowly but surely coming in!!

I really feel that it will be snuck in somehow or another.

I am just so demoralised at the moment with Government and everything.

Just now I am all for a Military Coup in Downing street. :¬((

Wouldn't want to take credit where none is due xx

If they come to our country as a place of refuge, surely they must be trying to get away from the customs of their own country, or why come here? Our laws were made in good faith to suit our way of thinking and anyone who lives here should abide by them. We do not need them diluted or altered to suit anyone who comes here. Thats like living in someones house and moving the furniture to suit yourself.
