Finally found a landline number for Beko which was just as well as the call lasted 35 minutes!

The upshot is is that they couldn't tell me how the machine ought to work. They are sending a repairman out on Wednesday (so that is an entire day under house arrest for me) and he will charge me £65 plus VAT if he can't find anything wrong with it. Does this mean that he will have to stay by the machine for 45 minutes to 3 hours to see that it is working?

They did suggest that it hadn't been installed correctly but couldn't advise me what are the usual mistakes people make in installation. The friend who installed it knows his stuff, so I doubt it is an installation problem. Even so I'm worried incase the repair man says it is.

I can't pay £65 as I don't have any more money. I've diverted our entire savings and next 2 months "left-over" income to this damned machine already. (OK, the machine was only £220 but we are surviving on next to nothing :o( )

What about my 1 year warranty? Shouldn't that cover it?

I did state that I thought it was Currys responsibility to do the chasing up, especially as the machine is brand new. Beko didn't know who is respondible for what so I'm none the wiser.

Thanks for that. I did think it was rather odd and did query it at the time.

Even so, I have found a landline for BEKO which won't cost me anything to phone. I'm going to phone them tomorrow and find out how the machine OUGHT to be working. If it ought to work in the way described in the manual, then it is the machine I wanted and my particular one is simply faulty.

If ALL that particular model work like that then it is totally unfit for my purposes. I don't think I'm being fussy. The ability to abort a program/cancel a wash is pretty essential and as, all my previous machines did this, I thought it was standard.

Also I had specified that I was only considering machines with quick washes as that is the main program I use. My idea of a quick wash is anything less than 45 minutes, though some people would consider 30 minutes a quick wash. BEKO's 2 hour "quick" wash ain't!!

Are Currys obliged to lend me a courtesy machine if mine needs repair/exchange? There are no launderettes where I live.

I work as a Customer Services Manager for a small Independent Store - and if you had purchased the machine from us - if faulty we would have replaced the machine or given you a full refund, within 28 days.
Dont let Currys put the onus on you to contact BEKO it is down to them to sort it - the law is on your side (it is the retailer not the manufacturer who is liable).
Keep at it - Sale of Goods Act not fit for purpose.

Good luck.

Currys are responsible for sorting it out not the manufacterer. your contract is with Currys and they are trying it on!! tell em you are contacting Trading Standards .
As the machine is new you can reject it under the sale of goods act as not fit for purpose. You have to stick to your guns tho and let them see you know your rights

As you bought it from them, why can't they help you out?

No joy :o(
I bought machine from Currys (I'm always mixing it up with Comet) and they agreed it is likely to be a fault. They gave me a premium rate phone number to call BEKO about it but unfortunately I can't afford to call premium rate numbers. Damned customer service rip off! Maybe saynoto 0870 will have a way out. Will have to raise hell on Monday when everyone is back at work.

Yes it is all fitted correctly. A friend with proven plumbling skills plumbed it all in for me.

I've since managed to see several reviews for BEKO washers and loads of people moan about the lengthy cycle times, and some even mention not being able to stop the program. The manual indicates that it is possible to shop the program by pressing the buttons in a particular sequence. Needless to say I've followed the instructions to the letter but to no avail.

Off to Comet to see what they can do about it!

I know it may be a silly question but is the drain tube fitted properly???? I was in hospital when my OH fitte out machine and he complained it tok too long to wash. When I got out of hosp I rang the engineer and he said the out tube wasnt 'levelled'??? and therefore the machine took longer to empty than normal...

If the machine is 'not fit for purpose', I would think you could definitely get your money back.
I would get onto Comet as soon as you can tomorrow and say you want a replacement.
The hot door sounds dangerous too.

Good luck.
It's awful to be without a good working machine. We had to replace recently and I was lost without one.
Washing for 5 seemed to take forever.

Hi again. I love the idea of the infernal machine not existing. It is either a horrible nightmare or Beko just want to forget they ever designed such a creature! The model number Iis correct - I just double checked. Googling the model number brings up quite a few best buy hits.

It is looking more likely that my machine may have a fault. The glass door temperature on the hot wash becomes far hotter than that of my oven and would burn the hands of any curious child. That CANNOT be legal surely? Also, there is a program cancellation feature but it does not work in spite of me following the manual to the letter.

I've never been in this situation before but would Comet give me my money back if the machine is unsuitable? I did stress to the saleswoman the essential feature I needed in a washing machine is a quick wash program, and that I tend only to do low temperature washes but needed a fast spin. So far it has failed to meet those minimum specs.

Looked at the Beko website and according to them, that machine doesn't exist!!!!!!!

Where did you get it from? Hope it wasn't an "old" model they have sold you that had been returned or something.

Redharissa

Redharissa Report 18 Jul 2008 19:19

The model is WM6152W.

I don't actually need loads of features. I only ever used the 30 and 40 degree washes on my previous 14 year old machine and the washes often took 40 minutes to 1 hour. My old machines longest cycle was the 90 deg cotton wash and I used to moan about the 2 hours that took. BEKO takes 3 hours and, even then, the washing comes out sopping wet in spite of a 1500 spin speed (old faithful did much better on 1200).

Sadly my old machine is dead and the repairman said last year it had too much worn out to make it economical to fix in future - even if I could get the parts.

If you bought it yesterday, then you need to go back to the shop that sold it to you and ask them.

If it has a fault then they should replace it. Otherwise they should be able to tell you were you are going wrong, if indeed you are.

However, Beko is not a top of the range brand, so don't expect too many whizz bang facilities, but it should be fit for purpose.

Tracey, which Model number is it - I used to install Beko's in my last job and may have some info on them somewhere.

I have the manual but the machine function bears no relation to the instruction!

Redharissa Report 18 Jul 2008 19:09

Thankyou. The information and comments are very helpful. So, I'm not the only person who gets cross with long wash cycles and is in search of a quick wash cycle.

Rotten thing is is the BEKO is the only machine which fits in the space without jamming the cupboards and, on paper, it looked like it was energy and water efficient. In practice, I've never had a machine which takes so long and uses so much water. Its programming is so illogical as to render it totally unfit for purpose.

If anyone does felt making it would be superb!

It went totally mental on the 1st wash where I had to do a 90 deg cotton cycle plus detergent in an empty machine. Even though I only put a tiny bit of powder in, half the kitchen filled up with foam which was generated continuously over 3 hours. You gotta laugh!

If you cant get it sorted get the store to take it back and get a replacement - the store should honour 28 day replacement - beko will.
Good luck
