CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 8 Aug 2008 17:41

Pretty sure nothing on FeeBMB Ann..Im sure I have looked.
Surely if she died in an air raid there be a death reference somewhere!

OR!...is it a sorry told to family to cover something?

Adoption?

I found by chance a very good website called

Ancestors-Brickwalls

Its worth having a look at it or putting a message on and its a free site and one I have found quite helpful.

No worries Frances. Hope you get it solved soon.

Marianne, thank you for that, will have a look at it.

Paul, the story could be true, I wonder if a lot of deaths went unreported officially during the air raids. Was it just the child who was supposed to have died or the whole family?

Have you tried asking the advice of Portsmouth RO, or even the Hampshire FHS. They have a web site and may be able to advise you.

dutch Report 9 Aug 2008 11:27

Hi Ann
just have some information which may be my g,mother it came from another Bassindale but he could,nt look at 1871 census, this is what he sent
William Bassindale born at Epworth Lincolnshire about 1802,he had son John Bassindale he had three daughters
Louise born about 1860 at Epworth
Elizabeth born about 1863 Epworth
Ada Mary born about 1869 at Manchester
Manchester was in Lancashire (lancaster) at that time and Liverpool is only 30miles away, also in Lanchshire(Bootle and West Derby are suburbs of Epworth is near to Belton,Crowl and Wroot,in Lincolinshire which was mainly farming area so its likely that John was farm labouer.seems he moved away between 18863-1869
is there anyone who can look up 1871 this is the closest ive got

But no way of knowing if the children belong to any of those 'Johns' really. They may have just been on holiday with the grandparents or maybe were living with them because they were orphans.
You will need to look for death of John I think.

Hi Frances,

On your Alexander Victor Gibson/Hagan's WW1 records, it states that his Father is Alexander Hagan, and that his next of Kin is Mother, Susannah Hagan and brother William Henry Hagan
adresses unknown

He had a fresh complexion, Hazel eyes and black hair, 5ft 6 ins and church of England, grocers assistant in civy street.....also went by the name of Victor in other documents disharged 1919 67 Cowran Street, Harpamey(?) Manchester, marital status single

and a letter was sent claiming for disability in 1934..by Alexander who lived at 13 Bendall Street, openshaw Estate, Manchester, in his own fair hand....the answer.says the records are private.

There are quite a few documents

apparently he made a will in 1915

Will delete if you would rather.

Just off to look William Henry

i have disappearing husbands for my great grandmother can't find deaths or the first divorce.
the whole set of children from my g grandmother's
second marriage - although i have all their names
they all seem to disappear - i am beginning to think
that as they were born during 1890's maybe they
went off to war but can't trace that either. i too
find ancestry co difficult. got so frustrated left it for months and now have just managed to trace some other disappeared family - but not through records
by people contacting me. and don't start me on
welsh names - i have davies marrying davies all
with same christian names - drives u mad!

Maggie, do you mean the Tom Cawley born in Oldham? If so he may not be a Cawley.

Think I've found his parent's marriage & it's not until 1882.
