Annoying all these diff spelling..I guess it down to the fact alot of folks back then had little education and so spelt names etc as they sounded.

that's right. I bet her Mum's name is Lilian and they liked the name Daisy. Just keep a note of the one I put on here just in case.

Wonder if any of the kids above..when they grew up used the spelling Johnston?..never know.
Yes I have found folks tend to pass names down in the families. But gets a little confusing when they use the same name over and over again!....

I believe my grandfathers middle name to be a surname passed on through. As its not a normal middle name as such..its def a surname.
Maybe his mothers maiden name or..or Daisy's mothers maiden name..to keep it alive..so to speak.

Have thought Ellen Boarder in Newport might be the one
Ann Pritchard died 1885 so they were still married in 1881
there was another family of pritchards in Lantillio
at the same time (no relation )
would there be any way to find out if they went to America around 1881

Just realised I have another one if anyone fancies looking for me. I can't find her anywhere.

Margaret Grady was born c1792.96 in Hampshire. She married Richard Cox in October 1817 at Gosport, he was a R Marine.
In the 1841 they are living in Carpenters Court Portsea both aged 45, both born in county.
Richard Cox I think may have been born in Gosport c 1790

I thought I had Richard's death in 1847 but it can't be him too old so another wrong certificate.
Any suggestions? can't find either in the 1851!!

I think I may have found Richard Cox in the 1851 under Richard Cook in the workhouse in Southampton. Date of birth and place and occupation (shoe maker/cordwainer) all match.

I have another one. John Sully born Somerset 1846. i can find him with his wife Mary Jane born 1848 Durston somerset in 1871 living in Portsea Hampshire.

In 1881 his children Walter J age 13 and Alice J age 4 are with their grandparents Robert & Mary warner. No sign of John or Mary Jane.

In 1891 John Sully age 48 is living in the same house as his MiL Mary Warner widow and he is a widower

Where were he and Mary Jane in 1881. haven't found her death yet but it was not between 1871 and 1881.

i have an anderson murphy and his wife is mary glass just vanished after 1829

I have a Florence Whittlesea who appears in the 1881 Census as a 7 yr old, daughter, born Middx, address is 35 Orcus Street, Marylebone, London.

Name often seen as Whittlesey or Whittleseay.

I cannot find her birth reg.
I cannot find her marriage.
I cannot find her on any other Census.

Any ideas anyone?

FreeBMD gives 2 possible marriages, 1902 and 1911 - I've checked them out, and they're not 'my' Florence.

Who were Florence's parents on the 1881 Karen? have you found them in 1891?
