I AM ALSO A BIG MOVIE FAN, I DON'T GET OUT TO SO MANY MOVIES EITHER THESE DAYS, BUT I HAVE A HOST OF FAVOURITES ON DVD, AND VHS AND RECORDED MOVIES. SOME OF MY REAL FAVOURITES THAT I WATCH AGAIN AND AGAIN ARE: OUT OF AFRICA, MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS, GONE WITH THE WIND, THE EAGLE HAS LANDED, SHIRLEY VALENTINE, GHOST AND MRS MUIR, WITH A VERY YOUNG HANDSOME REX HARRISON. MOST OF DORIS DAY MOVIES PARTICULARLY THE THREE WITH ROCK HUDSON. MY FAVOURITE MUSICAL OF ALL IS SINGING IN THE RAIN, AND SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS AS A CLOSE SECOND.

Did any of you see Ryan O'neil in Driver.
He played a getaway driver to perfection.
He totalled a merc while still driving it in an under ground car park.

Pam's thread is nearly 1 year old!

Haven't watched many films recently, nothing has been on TV that floats my boat!

Elizabeth, yes I want to see 2012 as well, but we'd better get our skates on as it can't have much time left at the cinema.

Still haven't managed to see The Box yet either - the next couple of weeks have been a round of Christmas parties - I've had turkey up to the eye teeth already and we've still got 12 days to go!

I think I will need to go to the movies - nearly everything on the TV over the next few weeks has been repeated and repeated and repeated. They bring out the same things every Christmas.

OH just read the book Gorky Park and so he got the DVD out and it was quite a good movie and I was very amused at watching all these little old Ladas toddling around. Apparently it left a lot out that was in the book but made it easier to actually understand the book by watching the movie.

Maybe I will hibernate from Television until the New Year.

Not seen it myself Elizabeth, but want too.........i think it will be one of those films you need to see on the "big" screen to get the full benefit of the special effects..... The reveiws and writeups are pretty good.......

Finally a new release film to talk about......


Went to cinema yesterday to see The Men who Stare at Goats starring George Clooney, Ewan Mc Gregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges,......... a bit strange to begin with but you need to stick with it, and in fact its very funny....... would highly reccomend if you fancy hanging your brain up for a while and believe the unbeliveable.......

I think James Mason was excellent in all his films.
Saw him in a film screened on TV recently where he played a bad lot, got shot in a duel by Stewart Grainger, can't recall the tile.

In another he played a highwayman opposite Margaret Lockwood

Hello

I find a video of "The Odd Man Out", with James Mason.

Superb, taut thriller where James is on the run from the law after plotting
criminal activities in Ireland.

It was absorbing and gritty and the performances from the cast were mesmirising.

The film won a BAFTA.

Well I actually went to the cinema last Sunday.

Yes it was a typical family film - went to see Nativity!

Hilarious film - one of those nice, innocent British films that captures our humour perfectly.

The Teaching Assistant, Mr Poppy (played by the hilarious Marc Wootton) steals the show.

Want to go and see The Box - looks like one of those chiller/thrilers that has a twist. Looks like me and the OH will be palming the ankle-biters off on someone when we go.

Just love Misery....... with the excelleny Kathy Bates....in a way it was an early Basic Instinct..... poor old James Caan...he didn`t get his legs that badly broken playing Rollerball!!



Did anyone catch Disclosure the other night? been a while since I v`e seen it, Demi Moore as the ballsy boss who tries { and fails} to seduce her employee Michael Douglas, and then sues him for Sexual Harrasment!!......unfortunatly i was too tired to watch till the end , but know its a good film.....

Summer hasn't really happened here Nicky - it gets later every year. It has been quite cold some days and nearly every day we get a bit of rain.

Climate change is affecting the whole world - and it is probably not going to improve - poor old Oz gets all the fires and has some terrible summers. The other side of the world gets terrible winters and as you say floods and there are more and more Tsunamis happening. We also get quite a lot of flooding in winter and cliffs and houses get washed away in storms.

Well that's the doom and gloom report.

Movies: well they can take you out of yourself so you don't have to think about these things for a couple of hours.

Didn`t realise you were in Auckland Norma...so your hopefully enjoying a lovely summer??!!........unlike us in wet and windy England..........just glad I don`t live in Cumbria, my heart really goes out to the residents flooded out, it must be dreadful...down here on the south coast we have VERY strong winds and rain....but no flooding.

The host of co stars helped make your average film.
When I watch a film Ive seen bebefore I watch out for the co stars and think whink what film was he/she in ? Why did they not make stardom ?

Last night I watched The Train starring Burt Lancaster and Paul Scholdfield. Seen it a dozen times but always enjot it. If you watch it keep count of how mant trains get bombed, wrecked and otherwise disposed of, its in double figures.

When I was about 12 or 13 a friend and myself went and saw

Rio Bravo - starring John Wayne, Dean Martin and Rick Nelson.
Around about the same time we went and saw "Tommy Steele Story" and I didn't half fancy Ricky Nelson and she fancied Tommy Steele. It was all we talked about for days.

Good luck with the renewal Pam - usually they are quick off the mark - but with the new regime maybe the cogs are slowly turning over.
