They are so not ready with cameras at hand :-S :-S.It gets my goat sometimes as they are so bl**d* clueless about birds and nature, and yet they live in the perfect setting .When I go down to see Fitz(my friend) we will sit in the garden and i will say ooh look at this or that bird eg Buzzards,Kites, and the Swifts and I just get a vacant look.Hey Ho ! we are all different .

Sounds like a scene from The Birds Jane. Hope the bird lime didn't damage the antiques though.

Jane Report 2 Jun 2012 17:01

My friend who lives down the lane was telling me yesterday that when we had a hot day last week they had all the doors open and a whole group of Swifts flew in!!!!.He said about 9 .He has a lot of antique pictures ,mirrors etc in the main hall(which they use as dining room. The birds settled on the mirror and picture frames and pooped all over them lol.Took for ever to get them to fly out again. How strange is that.It is a converted Barn surrounded by other stone built buildings.I wonder if they were looking for nesting places?.Their staircase is an open one going to a galleried landing and the birds were up there too :-S

I told him at least it was a good opportunity to do some well needed cleaning :-D :-D

OMG Shaun
I didn't realise squirrels did that :-S :-S.I haven't seem my Earless one and Mate for a few days now.Maybe it is the heat.
It's good to know I'm not the only shade hugger :-D I do find the heat a problem sometimes.Fans on all over the place here.I have found a few little blue eggs broken into lying on the Lawn .I think it could be the Magpies.

Looking forward to seeing your pics on the blog.

I will look forward to that Sean. What a shame about the tree creepers nest Squirrels are pests aren't they, even though they do look cute. I would have loved to see those baby owls, you were very privileged.

Hello Gang :-)
Hope you are all okay and enjoying the weather if you like it hot, I'm following the shade round half my time or indoors with fans going, the heat dose me no good what so ever.
I mentioned on the welsh thread that I have been watching 3 baby owl chicks being fed by there parents, a lovely sight. I don't wont to photograph them yet because the flash on camera could startle them. Once I have photos I will send to Jude. Also, I cannot think I f I told you, but a wren decided to nick the swallows nest and built it's own nest on the top. There are baby chicks in the nest now a couple of days old so there will be some photos of those which Jude will have.
Don't know if you saw the photo of the baby Tree-Creeper I sent to Jude, but sadly there will be no updates of there progress because they were attacked by a squirrel and eaten. We have a lot of problems round here re squirrels raiding bird nests, they will take eggs and young chicks. Last year I caught one chewing the front from a bird-box.
Keep your eyes peeled for owls and wrens and young black-bird on Jude's blog, soon.
You all take care.

LOL Jude .YEAH!! it's the Government's fault we are having such dreadful weather. ;-)
Haven't seen my Squirrels this afternoon.Probably because we have been out and about in the garden.Lots of little birds around the Coconut, and on the ground picking up the dropped bits were the Sparrows ,Robins, and a Vole lol
the little Vole pops in and out of the Rockery to snaffle up the bits of fat dropped from the Coconut .It looks like it is on hidden wheels the way it scoots about as you can't see it's feet :-D

Shaun thanks for photos, I will try and add them tomorrow when I am more likely to be able to upload them. No good now as it is raining here at the moment so the signal is rubbish.

Hi Jude .Yes the Earless Wonder is still here ,and has a mate (with ears) lol.Between the two of them they are scoffing all the fat from the coconut. They come in the early morning and then around 4/5 o'clock.Poor little birdies have to wait their turn.Loads of different little birds feeding .It seems a very busy time :-D :-D.
I had my Sister staying with me for a few days and she was so amazed to see the Earless one.I had sent her a piccie but she was really pleased to see it (in real life) lol

Hello Everybody.
The Cuckoo as arrived, I bet he's had a shock to, going on the weather we are having.
Also there's been a lot of activity in my front porch, the Swallows got here to discover that the nest they have been using for several years as been taken over by a Wren. They have done nothing but fight, the racket they make you would not be-leave. I was quite shocked to see such a little bird like a Wren to be so aggressive anyway I think he's won the battle because the Swallows are starting to build the other side of the house. I have sent Jude a photo for her blogg of the Wrens nest which was built on top of the Swallows nest.
Hope you are all okay.

The sunflower seeds still disappear as fast as we can fill the feeders.

Today we have had baby greenfinch being fed by the adults. The blackbirds are very active too. Robins too

In Devon we saw martins nesting over the last weekend

Saw a couple of Bluejays this morning eating and drinking in the garden, then they had a bath and flew off, thrushes are coming in now but as of yet the Swallows and Swifts have not arrived.

AnninGlos Report 18 May 2012 13:45

Rose you are lucky to see thrushes as we don't get them in our garden, bet they are entertaining to watch too.

BC Just going back a few posts, I think the wagtail that has yellow on it is actually a grey wagtail. (I know, it doesn't make sense.).
