Swifts, lovely Jude. Are they early or about the right time? I never know.

Don't know BC Just keep disturbing them so they can't nest, don't put any feed out. Get doggie to bark at them.

I need some help! There is a pigeon trying to make babies, or whatever they do, in my beloved Jasmine! I need to discourage her as she has brought her whole family with her and they are all hovering on the wall and pooing a lot. I have tried shouting at her but she ignores me. If I put up a scarecrow do you think it would deter her?

Plenty of activity in the garden, all our usual visitors. We are getting through so many sunflower seeds think I might need to take out a mortgage !! LOL Might need toget some more tomorrow.

Only ever seen one Gold Crest and that was years ago.

Vic keeps reminding to tell you he saw Swifts on 9th April flying along the river Wye:))

Our Cormorants have moved on to breed, not too far away though....we think they are about 3 miles up the river:))

I think they were only pretending but I was watching a pair of robins in and out of a small blue tit sized box shaped like a house on the fence right outside our lounge window this evening. I don't think they will nest there, just trying it for size. But I think it would be too small for them. Shall keep an eye on it though.

AnninGlos. Today I spoke with the lady that writes in our village magazine, she thinks the gold crest is nesting in her neighbours fir tree and it mainly lives on a diet of insects but it seems if we get a couple of cold days they have been feeding on fragments of peanuts that she puts out, she said these small pieces of peanut are readily available in most garden centres.

I will phone her after the holiday weekend.

I wish Lesley, no unfortunately. Let us know what she feeds them on.

We have a quarterly village magazine and a lady from our village always writes in it about birds, this time she has written about the gold crest (plus other birds) she said this spring is the first time she has ever seen let alone had them feeding in her garden, I've never seen them, I'll have to find out what she feeds them on to see if I can attract some. Has anyone else seen or got gold crest feeding in their garden

So that Jude sees my near miss with the Heron :-( :-(

Missed opportunities!!! You will not believe this :-D This morning I was in the bedroom sorting out a seam on a shirt I was wearing that was prickling my neck (as you do), had just re-dressed and turned round to go out of the room. Idly glanced out of the window as a Heron came into my sight. Believe it or not it landed on the post next to our bird table which is roughly 8-10 feet from our back conservatory door, it then had a good look for available ponds. My camera was in its case in the cupboard next to me, by the time I had got it out and switched it on the bird took off,did a circle, landed on first one roof, had another good look round - no ponds here as far as I know,- circled again and flew off. Twice I tried to photograph it but the camera wouldn't focus as it was picking up too much sky. I finally took a photo of this dot flying off in the distance. Waited but it didn't come back. Beautiful bird though, I so wish I'd had the camera out of its case already. :-(

The ruddy magpies drive me barmy - they fly around my garden looking for nests to sabotage and take eggs and newly hatched chicks from :-(

Going back to the baby blue-tits leaving the nest - I remember sitting outside for ages once with my camera waiting for them to leave. I knew it was about to happen as the parents fly around outside tweeting excitedly trying to coax them out. Anyway, the doorbell rang and I rather impatiently went to answer the door. It was a man who'd come to repair our car radio. I hurriedly gave him the car keys and said 'Sorry, I've got to go back into the garden - I'm waiting for some baby tits to come out'. He looked at me askance and said 'Excuse me?'

Oh for goodness sake Foggy....surely you have a video thingie on it?? ;-) :-)

Jane....l knew l did'nt like Magpies!!! Hope nothing has happened to eggs etc!!

We have'nt had anything nest in ours, but then it was in the wrong place.....so you did better than me, it needs replacing now :-(

Be patient Foggy. :-D.That's great you already have Blue Tits nesting.They know a good place when they see one :-D :-D.Posh Box.They all be making bookings for next year lol
Just keep the camera handy and I bet you will get a good snap.

I wouldn't be able to tell which is a he or a she,..LOL.
It flies in and out so fast.

A very tasteful bird-box may I say Foggy - I'm impressed :-D It'll be both of them whizzing in and out building the nest. Make sure you have your camera ready when the offspring leave the nest - it is a sight to behold!
