How about experimenting with adapting this recipe? It says Nutella but I reckon your paste would do.
http://www.foodchannel.com/recipes/500-chocolate-hazelnut-pate

I think a layer of your hazelnut paste would be lovely in a tart underneath slices of apple or pear. If the paste is too sweet just reduce the sugar in the fruit or add no extra sugar.

Melt some dark bitter chocolate and stir in some of your paste as a sauce for icecream or profiteroles.

Did you like my cheese and banana on toast? LOL

Sue I loved it but got it the wrong way round put the nanas on first, cheese on the top, didnt read your way , but still tasted lovely....the bananas went a bit mushy under the cheese ...mmmmmm.....

I will do the spread with pear sounds as though its a perfect partnership..

LOL

I don't suppose it matters much which way round the banana and cheese go! It's going to taste the same I reckon.

My husband doesn't like cooked cheese and isn't keen on the smell of it even, so this is a treat I tend to do for myself if he is out.

I think I read the recipe in a student cook book many years ago.

Sue, my old Dad never liked cooked cheese, and I had the same trouble had to have it when he was out.
All the cheese we cut off which is a bit manky, we feed to the birds, the Robins just love it.

Any meringues over, they are lovely as a base for ice cream, instead of wafers.

One of my Girl Guide forums just had this recipe on it and I thought of that hazelnut paste.

Fake Ferrero Rocher Chocolates

For a Guide unit use 9 original ryvita and 4 tablespoons Nutella. (LOL or a hungry family!).

Break up ryvita (into small pieces then put in plastic bag and hit with
rolling pin!).

Melt Nutella in microwave (does not take long!!!) or in bowl over pan of hot
water.

Mix ryvita and Nutella in bowl. Spoon into sweet paper cases. Put in fridge
to set.

Alternative Fake Ferraro Rocher Chocolates

Suitable for nut allergy

100g of milk chocolate (39p from Lidls),

3 ryvita crackers (30p from Lidls)

Now that sounds fun! I think I'd be tempted to coat the nuggets in chocolate while I was at it.

I think my Guides will be doing those at some point.

JustJean

JustJean Report 26 Nov 2012 15:28

Home made meat loaf bits left over ,so made pasties and used it as filling excellent, added left over mash potatoes to cheese and onion mix and got extra pies and cheesy sausage rolls without the sausages of course....lol...
D cleaned cupboards out yesterday and threw away lots of old bottles of soya sauce, blue cheese dressing and a lot of out dated stuff most of it was 2009 :-0
we had some curry sauce mix and old pasta shells so they went to.... loads of spaces now to fill up again...

I dread goint to the back of my cupboards. I know there are tins there out of date. However, I have recently seen where people ate tins of out of date fruit with no ill effects. I probably wouldn't but T would.

Not really left overs but this sounds nice. I haven't made it yet but intend to.

Recipe for pan forte
400 gms mixed nuts walnuts, almonds, cashew etc
100 gms mixed peel
100 gms plain flour
1 level tsp ground cinnamon
4 sheets edible wafer paper
175 gms honey
175 gms caster sugar

Topping
1 level tbsp icing sugar
1/2 level tsp ground cinnamon
Baking tray
8 inch round shallow tin

Set oven to 200 degree C
Spread out nuts on baking tray & bake in centre oven for about 10 mins turning occasionally so they turn even light brown. Remove from oven and leave to cool.
Roughly chop nuts, place in a bowl. Add peel, flour & cinnamon & mix we'll.
Turn oven down to 150c
Arrange wafer paper sheets in round tin, overlapping so base and sides of tin are covered pressing into edges of base. Can be left sticking out over top of tin.
Place honey & sugar into a pan and warm over a low heat until sugar dissolves. Increase heat and bring mixture to the boil. Boil until it reaches the soft ball stage ( drop a small amount into cold water; if it forms a soft ball it is ready.) take pan off heat and pour the syrup over the nut mixture. Working quickly, stir ingredients together and tip into tin. Press it down well in an even layer.
Bake in centre oven 30-35 mins until mixture is light golden. Take out of oven and cool in tin for 10-15 mins, then remove from tin and place on wire rack. Cut off excess paper. Sift icing sugar and cinnamon and leave to cool completely.
When cold wrap tightly in a freezer bag. Will keep in airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

if i have a couple of apples that are not fit to eat. i cook them and make apple sauce, freeze it to use as apple sauce for when we have pork. i add to this,if it mounts up i make an apple pie using the bits of left over pastry i have frozen. better than the apples going in the compost bin. in this day and age we have to use all food we buy. when i was a kid my mother never wasted any food. the chicken bones were used to make soup, as was the bones from a shoulder of lamb. if things were really tight we had pancakes for tea, with a bit of sugar and lemon on them. plus a bit of mashed banana, if we had one.
