My Redeemer Lives

1. I know that my Redeemer lives;
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, He lives, who once was dead;
He lives, my ever-living Head.

2. He lives triumphant from the grave,
He lives eternally to save,
He lives all-glorious in the sky,
He lives exalted there on high.

3. He lives to bless me with His love,
He lives to plead for me above.
He lives my hungry soul to feed,
He lives to help in time of need.

4. He lives to grant me rich supply,
He lives to guide me with His eye,
He lives to comfort me when faint,
He lives to hear my soul's complaint.

5. He lives to silence all my fears,
He lives to wipe away my tears
He lives to calm my troubled heart,
He lives all blessings to impart.

6. He lives, my kind, wise, heavenly Friend,
He lives and loves me to the end;
He lives, and while He lives, I'll sing;
He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.

7. He lives and grants me daily breath;
He lives, and I shall conquer death:
He lives my mansion to prepare;
He Iives to bring me safely there.

8. He lives, all glory to His name!
He lives, my Jesus, still the same.
Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives,
I know that my Redeemer lives!

And those two lines of the hymn (below) are part of my family history: they are on the gravestone of my great-great-great-grandparents :-)

Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives,
I know that my Redeemer lives!

I know what you mean by the flowers. I put a couple of comments on a thread on Chat about the Good Friday service but it was hijacked by a slanging match and disappeared. I did get some apologies which was rather nice.

My point was how stark and cold the church is, especially on that day. Everything, the music, the words etc. are sombre with no flowers or ornaments around.

The faithful few huddled in their pews. We left in silence.

Last night, at the Easter Vigil, things began to improve and this morning........

WOW - everything was back. The flowers were fantastic, the music uplifting, the words stimulating. The large congregation - from babes to pensioners joined in the prayers and the singing.

I helped with the pre schoolers and it's great getting down to read to them....it's the getting up again!!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8006632.stm

Orthodox Christians have begun marking Easter at celebrations throughout Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Thousands of worshippers crowded into the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, Christianity's holiest shrine, for the Holy Fire Ritual.

Russian believers filled the cathedral in Moscow, where Mass was celebrated for the first time by the Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.

Happy Easter :-)

Thanks for the link Joy, it was interesting to read about our Orthodox friends. Soooo many Christians in all those places - it's heartening to know about it.
