Hi All

Do I qualify for any invite?

My Dads cousin emigrated on the £10 assisted passage in 1964. Plus my hubbys cousin came for a two week visit, when we had a pub. Stayed two years and took our best bar maid back with him. lol. They now live near Perth, can't remember where and they have changed their e-mail address.... maybe thinks I may return the favour.

I live in Conwy, home of the most beautiful castle in North Wales, my opinion of course, not too far from Tecwyn. I live within the walls and can see the castle from my living room window.

A lot of people from England think it always rains in Wales..... not true. Although we had some rain last week we have been blessed, so far and with fingers crossed, a pretty good Summer so far.

G'day to you all and especially our Bert, just in case he is looking in.

xx

Good morning/evening/night all.

Allan, I just read your post explaining the time difference. You even had ME confused so much, I had to look at the clock to see what time it was!
How was your walk, this morning?

Morning Sue. Hope you are feeling better to-day. I'm taking a guess at how you felt yesterday!

Clear skies and sunshine this morning here. Looks good outside - but not very warm when you get there!

Hi Libby,
SueMaid is the Chief Immigration Officer for Honary Aussies on this thread, but she is so nice, and I'm sure she'll make you welcome.
We are virtual neighbours aren't we? and Conwy is my favourite spot on NW coast, though haven't been for a while.

Regards
Tec

Hi libby, and welcome to the thread!

Cogratulations to yourself and Tec: you've actually managed to make me a bit homesick, not that I come from Wales.

I'm originally from Manchester and all my early holidays were spent in the Conway area.

We've been here since 1982 and haven't been back since: but in the best tradition of Welsh Bards, the tales you two have woven have given me itchy feet. I shall return one day!

I live in WA about 170kms south of Perth. If you are serious about finding your husband's cousin pm his details and I will check the phone directory for an address

Regards

Allan

Good Morning Berona,

How are you today? Got any big plans, or will it be an easy day?

I also find these time zones so confusing.

Regards
Tec.

Good lunchtime here in another day in paradise (almost). Although Sunday here was a bit ordinary.
Re time zones: South Australia is a non-standard 30 minutes behind the eastern states. 30 minutes is not going to matter much, except a lot of their networked TV and radio programs are time delayed, which causes much pain for them. They also have daylight saving in summer (Oct-March) so stay 30 minutes behind us. Oddly, the NSW city of Broken Hill also uses SA time.
The other confusion is that, like WA, Queensland don't have daylight saving for summer. None of that socialist nonsense for them, don't you worry about that (... in joke ... forget it ...).
So "Eastern States" in summer means NSW, Victoria and Tasmania. Five different time zones. Confused? Me too. We could do what they do in China which is one time zone for the entire country. Beijing time of course. It may mean that the sun doesn't rise till about midday in western China and stays up until 11 pm but there is uniformity!
Hello, good morning or good afternoon to all the new people on this thread from an Aussie. Any Canadians yet? Where are you?

G'day all

Its a cool sunny day here in Vic, they have forecast showers for the rest of the week.. Ha yer right!!

I had a lovely surprise when I opened my emails last night, I received 2 marriage certificates and 1 photo. The certs were of my great Grandparents and Great Great Grandparents and the photo was of my Great Grandmothers sister, who I never even knew (once) existed until I started doing my family tree!!!!
It all makes the hours worthwhile.

I keep the English time zone on my phone so I always know what time it is in the UK and then I don't accidentally call family at the wrong times.

Have a great day/night

Hi all, this is Susie,
I'm from north of Sydney, Newcastle to be exact. Just thought I'd say hello. I've been reading your thread for a while now and finally struck up the nerve to reply.
It's a lovely sunny day here in the Hunter but the breeze has a bit of a nip to it. Looking forward to spring, not long to go now.
Hello to all you Brits too especially in the north east where all my rellies live.

Good afternoon everyone. I love this thread and we're meeting so many people.

Libby, of course you're welcome on here - we may need a bed next time we're in Nth Wales:)) If you can see Conwy Castle from your window then we may have seen your window from the Castle:))

Berona - thank you for thinking of me. Hope you are well. Isn't the weather glorious - sunny and warmish. Although it's getting a bit cloudy and breezy out there - 3 p.m. onwards and it gets quite chilly.

Colin it's good to see you again - keep posting:)

Carole it's good to see you too. Isn't it wonderful when you get photos? I've had so many photos sent to me and I try to reciprocate by sending certificates when I can. I do scrapbooking and I've made some lovely albums using old photos. I have the most wonderful photo of my paternal great grandparents with my 3 y.o. grandad sitting on his father's knee. I only wish my father had been able to see it. When we visited last year we went to see my dear old uncle - 89 y.o. - and he gave a photo of my paternal grandparents. My gran is pregnant in the photo possibly with my dad or my late uncle. I had it copied because I felt the original should stay in the family in England but when I told my cousin he said he felt I should have it one day.

Susie, how nice of you to join us - you are very welcome. I like the Newcastle area - very much like the 'Gong with our industry. Please keep posting - everyone is so nice.

Allan, since my OH retired he's taken over a few jobs around the house - usually the washing and sometimes the cooking - but then he's always been good around the house. So we're a bit topsy-turvy in our household as I still do some work. Luckily I can do a lot of it at home and only go into work to do interviews and go to meetings. I train volunteers to work in our local hospital and liaise between the volunteers and the staff.

Aussies, enjoy your evening and our Brit friends - have a great day.

Sue xx

Didn't answer you before, Tecwyn, because I felt you had gone to bed.
As for my plans for the day - I always have an easy day - I see to it that I do!! Hope yours is a nice day.

Libby, welcome. My OH came out on the old scheme, but it cost him nothing because he was a tradesman. Crafty, those Immigration people - Australia needed tradesmen at the time! He had to pay 10pounds each for his two sisters though, when he sponsored them.

Susie - at last! someone from my own home town! I was born in The Junction. Lived later in Adamstown overlooking Garden City. Married from there at Cooks Hill, and built our first home in Cardiff South, but I have lived in Sydney for the past forty-odd years. I have twin aunts there aged 83 and most of my first cousins are there.

G'day again all!!!

Welcome to Suzie in oz!!!

Suemaid- Yes it is wonderful when you receive photos and such, I try to share every thing Ive got, but Ive not got much to share!! so sometimes I feel a little guilty, I must say though I'm utterly appreciative!!!!!
Also when I first started my research my lovely Aunt gave me a photo of my Great Grandmother, who I never new but have come to love dearly, because she had been so hard to trace.

Good morning Pommies/Good evening Aussies:))))

Bye for now

Hi there everyone, where ever you are, I'm another Aussie in WA popping in after reading this thread since it started. And believe it or not, I'm another Susan, though I've been trying to think of another distinguishing name to avoid confusion.

Have enjoyed hearing about Wales, as my father's family came from Mountain Ash area, and Cornwall. The first ones to arrive in NSW came to Newcastlein the early 1900s, Susie, and going by the phone book there are still some in the district. Have just been researching them this week.

It is nearly dinner time here and I am dining alone tonight, so might try something different from a recipe book, then it if is not successful no one will complain! Hope all in Oz have a pleasant evening, and to those "up north" have a good day.

Bye for now, Susan.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 28 Jul 2009 11:06

Another Aussie:)) Welcome Susan - hope you can join in often. I ate alone the other night as my OH and son were off out for the evening to have dinner and watch a show. I had home-made pumpkin soup and toasted some turkish bread. Very nice:)) The problem with making soup is that people seem to be able to smell it from miles around and turn up "unexpectedly" around lunch-time especially if it's pea and ham.

Enjoy your evening, Susan.

See, Allan, I told you that it can be smelt from miles around - even way over in WA.

We are gathering more and more people - isn't it great? First it was Aussies ruling the thread and now it's Susans.
