Chihuahua Jane?!!! eeeek! That's an old ladies 'dog'?!!! Mind you they can be quite sparky, and can yap incessantly! I should think Thomas would eat it!!,! Perhaps the family won't want the dog leaving their home so you may be spared!!
Cas is whacked this evening! She's had a very good day and we now have four pheasants hanging in our feed store!!!
Hope everyone's coughs and colds are feeling better.

Jane Report 6 Dec 2016 17:32

Afternoon Everyone
Fog Fog Fog all day today. It has not not cleared at all. :-S
Mel what a lovely fairy you made for Sandra :-D :-D.No wonder she was thrilled to bits with it...Sweet little Mouse in its shell :-D..Thomas would like that one :-D :-D

I don't think I was ever in Bideford at Christmas time.I bet the lights look lovely all along by the river :-D

Liz ,I keep wondering how long my dishwasher will last.I can't remember how long I have had it .I think maybe just 5 or 6 years so it should be good for a while yet .But sometimes I do think it sounds a bit funny. We still have it covered on the extended warranty.Ours is a Bosh.
Hit that button again then Frank !!!!!!!.You will have to have another try later. :-D

I have spent most of the afternoon putting bows and ribbons on pressies and wrapping a few more.My fingers are sore now from all that sellotape.I have had to stick a plaster on one of my fingers as it has a bit of a crack .

Chris is up and about today but not really doing much.He did get some logs in this morning and did the fire .He says he doesn't feel qiute with it.Must be the Day and Night Nurse tablets.

My hip has been so bad today I have been using the walking stick in the house. So now I have just had one of the stronger painkillers so I can stand and cook dinner. It is just a simple dish.Lloyd Grossmans Gastro Sauce(Coq auVin). All I need to do is cut up some chicken breasts and cook them for a few minutes in a big frying pan and then add the sauce.Rice Pouches, and Broccoli and Asparagus.
James has gone to work again today, even though it is his week off :-|.I suppose there must be a good reason.
He told me last night that Jess's family might be getting a Chewawa ( i can't think how to spell it !!!!!!!!! so have typed as it sounds)..He said Jess would want to bring it here !
I am sure about that.Thomas might think it is a MOUSE !!!.Or he might go off in a huff and not come back. Chris would not be impressed .He calls them Rats on Ropes :-|

Last night I was in bed (I think it was 9.15) The door bell rang and it was a delivery from Amazon!!!.. One package for us and one for next door. So James signes for next doors...10 minutes later doorbell goes again and it is the neighbour coming to get theirs. Why didn't they answer their door bell???
Chris is waiting now for another delivery due today.I hope it is not going to as late. I suppose there are so many parcels being delivered now leading up to Xmas that these poor chaps are having to work so late into the evenings.I feel very sorry for them. One of our lovely young men who delivers here often is going to New York on Boxing Day and will be staying there for New Year.He is so looking forward to it :-D :-D.He is such a nice person and always has a big smile. Not like some of the right old grumpy ones who never say a word .Saying that some hardly speak a word of English.

How was the Nativity Play today Mandy? :-D.......I always think that this time of year is so exhausting for the little ones at school ,with all the shows they have to do .Not just in the day time but sometimes evening performances too.

I must get dinner started, not that I have any enthusiasm to do it.

magpie Report 6 Dec 2016 15:13

Thank you for the pics Mel, and for the pretty card Gill.
Very foggy here today with little or no wind, not cold though. OH has taken Cas shooting so I've made a Pasta Bake for supper which should be nice and warming after a day out. I've had to have a new dishwasher! The electronic timer was playing up no my last one,! OH got so fed up with me going on about it that we went to Currys and chose a new one. It's a Kenwood and works beautifully! so another thing to be chuffed about!!
Nothing much doing here this afternoon!

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Dec 2016 09:56

Morning all,

I hope you all slept better last night. Dull and dreay here this morning but it is warmer again.

How's all the colds this morning?

Shopping day today and the lights should be on in Bideford as they were all up last week and I forgot to tell Jane.

Saw the two hogs feeding together last night and there was a bit of pushig and shoving going on at first when the bigger one came up to the bowl and who do you thik was shoving? yes the little one but they settled down and bot h stayed feeding for quite a while. I did get a pic but it not that good. I have a feeling I shall be feeding these two all winter. They are growing though as Tiny Miney is nearlly as big as Tiny now.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Dec 2016 23:15

O bless him Mandy. Its a lovely age 2. I can remember my son at 2. He was so blond he was nearly white like his cousin aunty Joys boy who was only a few months older than my son.

I like the idea of lists and Iuse dto make one because mum never new what to buy me. I would like things for the kitchen but she said that was'nt a present but I used to say at least I will use it if I want it. One of the last things she bought me was a large melamine pasty board with a lovely picture of chickens on it. I chose it and she bought it for me and its still on my work surface now and I always make my mince pipes with it and remember mum. <3 She also bought me a £40 frying pan which is suppose to be one that cheifs use and non stick but it is'nt non stick but very heavy and I only use it to cook burgers because its the biggest one I have. Another present was a stainless steel preserves pan.

Mandy have you made anything Christmassy this year? I know you made those trees the other year.

Love the pics Ann and the bunting. I have replied to your email.

MillymollyAmanda Report 5 Dec 2016 20:01

Ann all the christmas trees are beautiful what a sight , so hard to pick one out but i do like the one with the shoes .
All the bunting looks nice ,what a clever idea as you could use all the old christmas cards up making that and then add to it each year so your having the pleasure of the cards for a couple of years .
Gill that might be some thing that Sandra might like to make.

Lewis is growing up he will be two in January ,he is mad on dinosaurs, you ask him what the dinosaurs do and he goes roar :-D

Annx Report 5 Dec 2016 19:28

I remember wearing one of those Holter monitors Jane. He will be covered in sticky stuff off the pads. Mind you I still keep finding a few gluey bits that are stuck hard from the other week in hospital. Little Jilly does look content doesn't she. It sounds a better idea for you to pop and see your sister than them travel to you this time. You can be a bit wary of going far from home in that situation!

I've sent some pics are doing well with your wreaths up to now. Hopefully that little hog will make it with all these late suppers he is getting from you.

Fancy little Katie having her list Mandy! They learn young these days don't they, but at least you know she will like what you get for her this way. :-) I can't believe she will be seven already. Young Lewis must be running about now. There will be a lot of excitement Xmas Eve in your son's house!!!!

Jane Report 5 Dec 2016 18:39

Mel is this little Hog going to survive the winter if it is still small? I would love to know where our Hog is hibernating.
Sounds like you are getting on with your wreaths. You wouldn't have been able to stay in the shed today if you were up here.It has been a really cold day

Yes little Gilly looks a real sweetie doesn't she. I can't wait to meet her.I suggested to Chris just now that we should pop down to see Janice and Larry before Christmas just in case they can't get to us just after Xmas because of Larry's Heart and Eye troubles.Until he sees the specialists and had the 24hr heart monitor done they won't know what they can do travel wise.

Nothing better than a good pillow is there.OH sounds like he is very happy with his Mel.
James is on his way home from work at last. This is supposed to be his week off !!.Hopefully the rest of the week will be his.(expect for coming with me to get the Xmas tree :-D :-D )

MillymollyAmanda Report 5 Dec 2016 18:32

Evening all,

Brrrrr another cold day ,very frosty first thing every where was really white , now it looks like the temp will be climbing up maybe 14 degrees later in the week.

Lots of poorly ones on here i see with sore throats ,i hope you all can get them over and done with ready for christmas ,it seems to be coming extra quick this year .

Oh Anne that will be lovely getting the new puppy in the spring ,just a nice time to get one ,you'll never forget your dear Amy but a new puppy will fill the missing bit of the family again , i wonder what the cats will think of a lively pup.

Sounds as if you did the right thing going early to see all the trees Ann , they must have all looked so pretty .

Gill that's good that OH can now see the nurse at the doctors to have his dressing done ,that's a long time to have to sit and wait at the hospital when your in pain .

Well your OH must have really liked the pillows Mel if he laid in like that .
Your doing well with your wreaths if you have three done ,when you see wreaths you don't realise how much work goes into them with all the wiring that has to be done .
So little hog hasn't gone to sleep yet ,has he got big enough to survive the winter do you think ?

Katie's play is tomorrow in the church ,she told me she is on the back row so i will know where to look .
Then Wednesday is her birthday she will be seven ,she came last week with a list as long as your arm of things she would like :-D
So tomorrow you know what i will be making ...... her birthday cake , she wants chocolate cake with chocolate stars on the top .

Nice pic of Larry and little Gilly Jane. She really looks comfy cuddled up to dad.

Ann did you get any pics of the Christmas trees please? You were right to go early by the sounds of it and had a nice look around whilst it was'nt too busy.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Dec 2016 17:53

I do hope Anne gets another little girl. I always had bitches as I find them so much more faithfull than dogs and you only get little patches on the lawn instead of the killing of the border slowly working up the garden. Thats what happened when I was very young with our Alsatian Tony who I grew up with. Mum said he started on the befining of the border and by the summer it was dead all along the front.

I have done and completed 3 wreaths. I finished the two I had started and mossed another ring and finished that one too. It has been warm out in the shed today and I had to take my coat off whilst out there this afternoon. I did'nt bring anything in to wire as I thought I had done enough for te day.

I bought in Morrisons last week two cotton pillows for oh. He said he would like them in one pillowcase so I did manage to get them both in one and they felt so hard after squashing them in. Well he likes them so much he did'nt wake up till 8.30am this morning and thought he may have missed the bin men but he had'nt.
He did comment that the pillows were making him sleep longer in the mornings though. He usually gets up about 4.30 the 5.30am. He tells me sometimes he has seen a hog at such and such a time.

Yes I am still feeding the little one. He comes along a lot of times during the evening into late at night before I have gone to bed at about 1.30am. Its a bit of a nuisance because I had a rat in the garden on the bird table the other day. Oh shot it and then whilst looking at the feeding ring for the hogs I saw a youngster a few times. Also I have had to take the bantams food out at night because the little ones were going in there. Oh has put some bait down but won't tell me where he puts it. We have special boxes to put it in so the birds can't get hold of it.

I had'nt got anything out for dinner tonight so we are having bacon sarnies.....yum yum my favorite.

Jane Report 5 Dec 2016 17:32

Zzzzzzz s going on here too Ann.Chris has been in bed all day and just got up about 4 o'clock .He came down and had a bit of toast and a coffee and has gone back to bed gain now.I said I will give him a shout later and see if he fancies any dinner.

Goodness what a sickly lot we are at the moment. Poor Ros too now and Anne having a wobbly time and nasty head this morning. Anne I think Boston Terriers are a lovely little dog.I am sure that you will love your new pup when you collect it in Feb :-D.Will it be a boy or a girl?..I seem to remember you saying that you always had bitches.I am sure by the time Feb comes you will be ready for a new addition to the family.Amy was very special to you and you will never forget will be a very lucky puppy with that nice forest on your doorstep for lots of lovely walkies :-D :-D

That was lucky you got there early this morning Ann.I bet it all looked really pretty and Christmasy even though there weren't quite as many trees as you had expected.
I must have a chat with James tonight and sort a day for us to go and get our tree.It can stay outside in a bucket of water until I am ready to put it up.

Liz that was really nice of your Son's partner to make that beautiful Xmas cake :-D.Would you normally make one or buy one or not have one? Chris will soon have to think about putting the marzipan and icing on the one he made .

Gill, thank goodness OH can arrange each day to see that Nurse to get his dressing changed. I think it was shocking that he had to wait all those hours the other day. That was so bad.Outrageous !!
I did take a pic of Thomas sitting looking at the oven, but I am not sure if I deleted it from my phone. If I find it I will send it on :-D

Mandy ,little Jilly or Gilly(not sure how they spell it) is doing great. She so sweet and is definitley Larry's dog.Janice sent me a pic of the 2 of them snuggled up.Will send that one on too :-)

Just had a look Gill and I have deleted that pic :-S..Next time Thomas sits looking in the oven I will try and get another one :-D

I must mash the potatoes as they have finished cooking now and the need draining.Lots of butter and milk to go in :-)

Sorry if I have missed anything else anyone has talked about today.I don't think I have actually read all the posts properly.

Annx Report 5 Dec 2016 15:53

Afternoon All,

Oh dear, now Chris is going down with it! :-S Mel I am thinking now that the bad throat I had for ages may have been the start of what I had a fortnight ago. It does hang around as you say and I still have a slight cough. I hope your hands aren't getting too cold and sore doing these wreaths. Thanks for mentioning about Kirstie's prog, I'll record it like Gill's done.

Frank we could have had a chat in the night as I didn't get to sleep till after 3.00am. In my case it was because I knew I had to be up early this morning! Your knee doesn't sound quite right with all this it getting worse do you think?

Despite a lot of traffic, we were at the Christmas Tree Festival on the stroke of 9.00am just as it opened! It was good but not as big as I expected. I think all the small ornaments and tiny trees high on narrow ledges must have been counted to make the high number. There were only about half a dozen other people there when we arrived so we had a nice slow meander around and OH was delighted to see them all which surprised me. Afterwards, we found a little cafe for a drink and bite to eat and read of the papers. By the time we got back to the church and car park, having resisted the Pork Pie Shoppe, they were queuing to go in outside the church so it was a good job we made the effort to get there early. We called at Aldi on the way home and bought some Christmas stuff including lots of pickles!! lol. OH has a headache now so has gone to lie down for while.......I suspect there are zzzzzzz going on!

Anne I think it is wonderful you have decided to get another dog. The house must seem quiet without Amy and you must miss your walks. A smaller Boston terrier will be great and easier to manage than an energetic Boxer puppy! It's good too that you will have a bit more time to come to terms with the loss of Amy and it will give you something to look forward to in the New Year. <3 :-) I hope you feel ok now after the giddiness this morning.

We have beard pruning here too Jane. He opens a sheet of old newspaper in the sink to catch the trimmings and gets the dustpan to sweep up, but still manages to miss a lot! At least now more of it is white it doesn't show up so much on the white floor tiles.

Liz, how nice to have received the surprise Christmas cake like that. It's good she was prepared to spend the time making it for you both and decorating it as well.

Yes it is fatal looking at your tree when you have jobs to do Gill! lol. Its good your OH can have his dressings done at the surgery now and save all that time. It is tiring and soul destroying languishing in hospital waiting rooms at the best, but worse when you can't sit comfortably as you say.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Dec 2016 14:42

Frank I hav'nt finished one wreath yet. I am just having a COT and going back out to the shed as its quite warm in there today. When I was in there this morning I had to take my coat off cos I was too hot. I only have to put cones, ribbons and flowers in these two wreaths then start on another. The tim eis taken up cutting all the materials to size and wiring them. To put them together dos'nt take long once you have wired 3 bunches of holly, 3 flowers , 3 bunches of ivy, 6 bunches of fir, 9 bunches of yellow fir, 3 cones, 3 bunches of holly berries and six bows. I think thats the lot!!

bakerGill Report 5 Dec 2016 14:00

Sorry to hear Ros is still unwell Frank, hope she doesn't over do it wrapping up presents, there's still some time to go so maybe she could do a bit a day until it's finished. That was nice of your friend to call round to see you, it must of been nice to have the company for a few hours <3

I had a look at my family tree which was a mistake as I haven't done any sorting of my stuff yet. Sandra has started sneezing over the last few days so it looks like she might be coming down with something. I said to take a Beechams, she wasn't to keen, but like I said she doesn't want it to get worse for Christmas day. The thing with Sandra is she doesn't get ill very often but when she does she's really bad, so I'm hoping the Beechams will kill it before it takes a hold.

OH called in our doctors surgery this morning to see if the nurse could do his dressing and as luck had it she had some free time. She's told him to ring the surgery everyday to book an appointment with her as she was shocked to hear that he's been waiting around for hours at the hospital. It's only been a few days since his op and sitting on hard chairs most of the day is painful. I'm glad she said to go to her as he only had to wait 20 minutes today :-)

Going to have a soak in the bath now, I hurt my wrist and back doing the shelf yesterday with being so cramped inside the wardrobe so I'm hoping the bath will help.

Frank Report 5 Dec 2016 12:17

again Morning folks,

Ros came and got me into bed around 4.00 am. I slept until 8.30. Ros got up and made tea whil and wrappinge I sat in my dressing gown in the lounge.

At 9.15 the door bell rang, when I opened it it was my friend from BEN the Motor Trade Benevolent Fund. Which has now been closed down, but he still calls to see us as a FRIEND. We sat for TWO HOURS putting the world to right and drinking coffee. He has been calling to see us since my STROKE in 2004.

Ros has decided to wrap all the Christmas presents. The table is full of drums of ribbon and rolls of wrapping paper. With the two little ones of Jan's G'children. Ros has bought lots and lots of small presents for Ella and Alexandra. It will be a picture to see their faces when they open them at Christmas.

Ros has got a real brammer of a cold. She c an hardly speak. and is coughing like an old smoker. (she doesn't smoke either) These colds always seem to go to her chest. I have offered to rub it better, BUT SHE WON'T LET ME !!!!

Anne how nice that you are considering another little dog. I am sure you will love it as you did AMY xxx

I see Trump is causing more trouble around China now. GAWD knows what he will be like when he is in power. I can't stand the man . (sorry we don't do politics do we)

So poor old Chris has your cold then Jane, I am wondering how long it will take for me to get Madams ??

How are you getting on with your wreaths Mel, nearly finished I hope

I haven't eaten again this morning, so I am going to get an early lunch, and see if I can get anything f or Ros. Aren't I a good boy.??

bakerGill Report 5 Dec 2016 10:30

Morning all

Very cold and frosty here today so I'm staying indoors apart from posting all the Genes Christmas cards later.

I noticed you were up and about at 1am this morning Frank, hope you managed to get some sleep in the end. Good news about your cataract operation, that was quick. When are you seeing the surgeon again about your knee? Hope that can be sorted for you soon too. How are your ribs now? So Ros has got all the lights up and running, £20 was a good price for the curtain lights ;-) How is her throat now, hope it's feeling better after the Lemsip.

I had to laugh when you mentioned Narnia Jane, I could of done with a door at the back of the wardrobe to give me more room to move. I didn't have that much in there in the end, but what I did have was to heavy for the small plastic bits to take the weight, the metal brackets are working a treat now :-D. Sorry to hear Chris is unwell, hopefully you'll both be okay in time for Christmas <3 Did Thomas enjoy his bit of beef after looking at it in the oven all that time. Did you get a photo of him sitting there? I'd love to see it if you did. I watched the water slide on the Jungle programme but that was all as I'm not keen on all the horrible things they have to eat, so can't watch it. I see Saraa Alto is through to the final along with 5 after midnight and Matt Terry, apparently Saraa is the favourite to win X-Factor.

I've recorded "My Mother and Other Strangers" Liz ready to watch when I get five minutes. OH and Sandra don't want to watch it which is why I recorded it for myself. It looks good and I'm looking forward to it. There's lots of programmes OH and I like to watch together and of course Sandra and I like to watch, but also programmes we all like individually. We have a few TV's so it works out fine for us. How lovely for your son's partner to make you a Christmas cake. What a nice thing to do.

Thanks for letting us know about Kirsty's Homemade Christmas Mel, I've set sky to record it as Sandra and I like programmes like that. OH, not so much though, so we'll watch it when he's at the hospital having his dressing done, as he's out for quite some time.
You asked about the expression "Under the Weather" it's from the language of sailors, apparently on the high seas when the wind would start to blow hard and the water became rough, crewmen and travellers would go below deck and down to their cabins in order to ride out the storm and avoid becoming seasick. They literally retreat to a location "under the weather" The saying in it's entirety is "Under the weather bow" The weather bow is the side of the ship where all the rotten weather is blowing. So basically if you were "under the weather" you were sheltering from bad weather trying to avoid being seasick.
Thanks goodness for Google LOL......Well, that's my something new learnt for the day LOL LOL.

I'm like your OH Ann and looking forward to watching the programme on Henry VIII. I never used to like history much until I started doing our family tree, that's when my interest in history really started. Did you watch WDYTYA with Danny Dyer he ended up being related to Royalty, he's such a funny man and was quite chuffed at the findings. OH spent another 4 hours at the hospital waiting to be seen by the nurse yesterday, he's getting fed up of all the waiting around each day and will be glad when he can go to the doctors surgery a week today, at least there he has appointment times so shouldn't be hanging around to long then.

When's Katie's Christmas play Mandy? I bet she can't wait. If she's anything like my two girls she'll be looking for her family the minute she walks in...bless her. I used to love going to see my girls in their play's, I do miss that now they're all grown up.

How are you feeling now Anne after your giddy turn and headache, better I hope? How nice to have another little dog to look forward to. No dog could replace Amy as she'll always have a special place in your heart, but you obviously have a lot of love to give another lucky puppy <3 February is probably about the right time.

I've decided to carry on sorting out my things today, I've got so much stuff that I need to go through, so I'm doing it a bit at a time until it's finished. I tried to put a zip in my handbag yesterday but it's not the right size so OH said he'd buy me a new bag as soon as he's fit enough to go around the shops.

Going to get a COT now, see you all later <3

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Dec 2016 10:07

Morning all,

I see we are a lot of grumpy or sick on here today. Jane I gave oh my cold for his birthday. I still seem to have it though and that was the week before the 6th Nov that I had it so at least a month now.

Dull and dreary here this morning and my pc is still playing up. It keeps huffing and puffing and it is so annoying. Oh tells me to turn it off if we are watc hing the telly as its doing it more and more now since he took a look at it for me and cleaned the fans out. He thinks its the graphic card or something like that and thinks he may have to get me a new one.

I shall be wreathing today so may not be around much.

Keep going, onwards and upwards and all that.

Wishes to all who are feeling under the weather. I wonder where that expression came from?
