Ann, Oh what I would give for a BATH instead of a shower. After my stroke, they turned the bathroom into a wet room. I have since put in a shower cubicle. but would love to be able to lay back for a good soak. The trouble is, I wouldn't be able to get out of one now. !!

I have received your photo's Jane. The buildings are so beautiful.

It's very difficult to get a pitch black night round here. There are street lights everywhere. When I first moved up here from London. I rented a cottage in a country village, and at night it was pitch black, and I would sit outside and listen to the owls hooting at each other. very peaceful, and relaxing.

Harvey was late getting here today, I got dinner for 3.30 pm and they didn't arrive till nearer 5.00 pm. It's such a job keeping everything warm and fresh.. By the time I had got everything out of the hostess and oven, I had gone passed wanting my dinner, so only picked at mine. But they seemed to enjoy theirs.

Y
They are off to France Friday afternoon, till Sunday after. We have given Lewis £20.00 for spending money, I would have been happy with TWO BOB. How times have changed.

Afternoon All,

William, your 'unknown' looks quite like an Alchemilla or Lady's Mantle to me, but is a bit different to the one I had a few years ago. It seems to have the wrong leaves for a Euphorbia although the flowers look similar.

Thanks for the pics Jane, the hotel building does look interesting and well preserved. Ghent and also Bruges are 2 places I would like to visit. Well done Hannah and John going up the Shard.......I don't think wild horses would get OH up there and I'm not sure how far up I'd get either!!

Lovely pics of the grandchildren Maureen and what nice views of the river William and of Exhall church. We were only saying the other day that someone must have made a fortune supplying the churches with those blue church clocks.

Mel, I prefer it pitch dark at night too.........it was like that in Staffordshire when I was a little girl. I think I've said before about standing at the backdoor calling Tiger, our tabby, and being amazed at seeing him appear out of the darkness.

Can someone send me Fiona's pics please? :-)

We went to the garden centre this morning on the way to MIL's and I got some leek plants and cos lettuce plants and a dwarf monkey musk plant.......more jobs to do!! lol. MIL said she is having her cataracts done soon.......and she's already cancelling appointments because they 'don't suit'!! :-S

That was bad luck Ros getting a speeding fine Frank, they pick all the likely places to catch you out. Couldn't she have gone on one of those speed awareness courses they offer instead of the fine/points? I know someone who did that.

OH was 'Mr Not-Very-Happy' with his back this morning and has been taking tablets. I think he will be in a nice hot bath later!! :-)

I keep getting a message saying my photo emails have not gone to everyone as 'over quota'.Not sure who hasn't received them :-S

Hannah and John went up the Shard building in London yesterday....Wow the view !! It's so high.
Well after a lovely sunny and really warm day it has now clouded over. There are millions of bugs and flies :-S.Does the weather go downhill again after today?

I see no Pat or David ,or Ruby and Dermot !!.Am I right in thinking Liz has gone ?I am sorry if she has :-(

Afternoon All
I have had so much trouble with the internet this morning I gave up.Just having a try again now ,so fingers crossed.
Ha! I just saw a Heron fly over the garden. It must landing next door.

Hi Ann what a pity about the weather. But it sounds like you have managed to have a great week in spite of it.Nice to have managed to eat outside on your last morning :-D

Fiona I think your garden is looking lovely :-D
Got the Church pic this morning William :-D

I tried sending a couple more pics but until the internet settles down and behaves nothing will go.

I have cleared out my Mum's old Bureaux this morning. It is an ugly old thing that used to be my Nana's.Mum wanted me to keep it :-S.Which I have like a dutiful daughter :-D up until this morning.I couldn't stand it stuck in my bedroom any longer. But it is not being chucked out.James is going to have it and make use of it .I was feeling guilty about getting rid of it,and now I needn't worry :-D

I need to go and take an antihistamine now as all the dust in it has got to me ,plus I have just pulled a load of giant nettle type weeds and I'm itching.
I'll BBL

William that was the first song I thought about but thought Max Bygaves was better.

Glad you all liked me singing to you this morning.

Fiona your garden is going to look great now you have the sheds out of the way and perhaps hubby will get his greenhouse!

Frank I always think of that song when the weather is clement and afterall it is Spring and the trees are flowering. I just wish the cherry trees could last a little longer. All along Bideford coming up to the old bridge there are white cherry trees and they looked absolutely wonderful when I went in on Monday.

I have just opened a new tin of boot polish. Do you think I could get the lid off. You used to have a little twisty thing on the edge of the tin that you turned and it opened the tin. This one has no such thing but on reading the small print on the tin I see you press one side and the tin comes open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Evening Kim

MEL, thanks for that song this morning. cheered me up no end as I look out of my window where it's cloudy & dull, no rain as yet. :-) :-)

OH out on his bike, I have just finished drying my straggly locks , made a coffee and decided to come on here to have a chat.

Glad Jane & Annx are back, shame about the weather though.

Better get on while it's peaceful, family will be down later on this afternoon.

Morning all/Evening Kim,

What a beautiful morning first thing, Blue sky's and wall to wall sunshine. It's clouding up now, witMelh just the odd bit of blue.

Welcome home Ann pity about the weather. The neighbour across the road has just got back from Cornwall, I spoke to him the morning, and he said they had gales, and inclement weather., but as least you had a break. You haven't missed much in the way of weather here anyway. :-D :-D

Mel/Mandy. I think we all have one of those Cupboards I keep promising myself I will get down and sort it out. There are things in there that we put there 15 years ago, and haven't been used or moved since :-0 :-0 I bet half of the stuff in there, will never be needed, so will throw them out or take them to the "ANTIQUES ROAD SHOW"

I turned over to see some of the results of the Eurovision, and we were FORTH from the bottom. So gave up and went to bed.

OMG The sun has just come out again, and is so warm. So I'm off the my sun lounger with the paper. See you all soon.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 19 May 2013 10:39

Morning All and Evening Kim,

On this bright and sunny morning I am going to wash my hair.

Big white fluffy clouds in a cluster hanging on the breeze to dry.

Out of town.

Say what you will,
The countryside is still
The only place where I could settle down
Troubles there are so much rarer
Out of town

Spring starts to spring
The cuckoo starts to sing
A song to take the edge off winter's frown
And spring cleaning has a meaning
Out of town

Up there the sun is a big yellow duster
Polishing the blue, blue sky
With white fluffy clouds in a cluster
Hanging on a breeze to dry

Trees everywhere
With blossoms in their hair
And Mother Nature wears her newest gown
What I'd give once more to live
Right out of town.

Right thats out of the way and thanks William for the church pic.

Hope everyone is well rested this morning for the busy day ahead?

William

Have just emailed the photo of Exhall church again. I checked my sent times and it's listed there with attachment and when I clicked on it, it opened OK. So let me know if there are any more problems with it please.

Maureen, the children all looked smashing in your email, I bet it was a lovely birthday party - the cake looked yummy.

William Report 19 May 2013 08:50

Morning all, what a lovely morning - will it last- or do a Eurovision and drop down the list! I'll try sending the church email again, I think there was a bit of a blip at the time... Glad you liked my Mash alien/robot. IIt was a bit of a job to film as he was running riot, I suppose it was all the excitement of landing on earth and finding we didn't east real potatoes :-D I suppose in all that you noticed that his mouth opened and closed and his left arm went up and down.

Nice to see Ann back, pity the weather wasn't kinder to you Ann - hope your OH's back gets better soon.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 18 May 2013 23:21

Well it is pitch black every night here too Ann. I love it. Nice to know you are back home safe and sound too.

Thanks for the emails William but I got no pic of the church either. Loved the little Smash robot. Made me laugh too.

Mandy I have two of those cupboards as well. They are a real pain and oh always comes into the kitchen when I have my head in them and bottom in the air!

Evening All....... :-D :-D I'm back!! :-)

Well, what a week weatherwise......needn't have taken my sunhat........but a good job I took my brolly!! lol. Tuesday we got soaked walking around Truro (I did find the bead shop again though and whiled away some time and money in there!) and then there were 65mph gales and hail in the evening and the dustbin took off!. From Wednesday onwards it was fine and we got to see some great gardens again and visited a few places including Porthcurno which is a pretty little cove with steps up to the Minack outdoor theatre. We had breakfast outside on the deck this morning watching the bunnies!! We saw the fox the first night, but the wise bunnies weren't out then!! Two of the gardens we went to look at run down to the sea with their own beaches and in both the gales had blown down big trees. At Trebah, the gardeners were busy sawing up a 120 year old Oak. The man in charge was telling us a lot of the trees suffer from Honey fungus which weakens them as they get older. The Rhododendrons were beautiful everywhere and at their best I think. All along the edges of the lanes and up the stone walls were bluebells and wild garlic and gorse. You could seven smell the garlic in the car. We had the 'famous' F&C again, but this year you got a desert as well for the same price. :-) We noticed 2 fields covered in solar panels when we were travelling this year, there is a big local dispute on in this county at the mo about a proposal to do the same, but I think it is a much bigger one.

Will catch up with the posts tomorrow.........hope you have all been behaving yourselves ;-) I see Jane is back and had a good time!! OH has managed to wrench his back since he got up this morning.......it might have been from lifting my case into the boot!! :-S........well, as Jane says, cases are always heavier coming home. :-S

Night, night.....it will seem strange it not being pitch dark tonight!! xx

Frank Report 18 May 2013 21:40

Evening all,

Have been busy this afternoon preparing all the veg for tomorrows dinner, I thought I would get it out of the way, so I can relax with the paper in the morning, or even a lay in.!!

Last nights episode was:- As I went to bed I changed the tv over to 655, which is Ros's Jewellery channel. I happened to mention that number was the first three digits of mum's co-op Divided No. 655127.

It bought back childhood memories of running to the Co-op with a list of groceries and when you paid, you gave your number and got a ticket receipt, which you always took home to mum. If you forgot to get the ticket, it was a box round the ear. I then started to think back to my childhood and through to my first marriage and all that had gone on in life. So my brain was working overtime. By 2 00 am I was still awake, got up for a read, and in between reading dozed in the armchair till 5.00 am. I then crept back to bed and slept till 9.00 am.

When I was old enough to afford my own cloths. I would get a £10.00 co-op account, and go to Stratford Broadway, walk through the bombed area, to the Co-op tailor dept. Get measured for a three piece suit and new shirt and tie for £10.00. That would cost me 10/=shillings a week to repay. Oh happy days !!!

see you in the morning. God bless all

Maureen

Maureen Report 18 May 2013 17:34

Thanks for the photos Fiona, the new shed really blends in well. That rhubarb is enormous it is nice to have something from your grandad's garden. I dug out a few plants from my mum's garden when she died and all my children wanted a rose of somesort so we all have something of hers growing in our gardens.

The dreaded song contest is on tonight. I might watch some of it but will definitely not be staying up for the voting, it's a joke, they all vote for their neighbouring countries, no wonder we never get anywhere, we haven't got any neighbours :-| Or I might just watch Les Miserables DVD I bought yesterday
