Hallo girls,
Well here we are again. What awful weather we are having. I am so glad that I chose to do my large shopping yesterday as today I might have got blown across the street with these high winds, not to mention the rain which would have given me a shower several times.
I managed to get a reasonably early start on making a large pan of pea soup - yes, the real thick pea soup made with split peas. I have frozen 5 portions in and we had pea soup for dinner today.
I am pleased with my new help. She has now been twice. I am thinking of asking whether or not I can have an extra 1/2 hour help per week. I have 4-1/2 hours per week, divided into 2-1/4 hours Tuesdays and 2-1/4 on Thursdays. They are cutting down on the health service things, so I'll be lucky if I get more help.
I don't like housework anyway and all that ironing! Johan has a long-sleeve shirt and T-sheet underneath every day, and then there are all those shirts to ironed.
I have not been writing so much lately as I have had my usual aches and pains. They have now fitted me with larger catheter, so hope this works.
My cardiologist is waiting to hear from me as to when I will say yes to my heart operation.
How are you Jill? I bet you are more settled than I am - and I moved in June last year! Johan and I went out yesterday and went to the sales to buy a curtain for between our bathroom and our bedroom. There was not very much choice but we did buy one.
Well Happy New Year everybody.

Oh that is OK Jo, I don't think I realised (or remembered?) that Sue's husband was ill. No of course i wouldn't expect her to send a card.

Ann, I would imagine if you are missing a card from Sue that with her husband being so ill at the moment she will not be sending out any cards, but I could be mistaken.

Sylvia, many thanks for your card. Glad you finally got your cake made.

Jo, interesting about the bugs, I suppose at least you get to see the woodpecker!!!

Had lots of birthday group cards, probably more than I sent, still have one from my group to come. I found most people posted fairly early this year which was good. I always keep a spread sheet list (3 A4 pages) of cards I have sent and cross them as I receive them back. That way I know who has not sent this year. I sent about 160 cards so have to keep track!!!

Morning Ladies, quite disappointed with the weather sun and rain not very 'Christmassy' difficult to get into the mood! Still making mince pies always helps and granddaughter coming to decorate the Christmas cake she made some time ago will help get into the spirit. Just wrapping up all the Christmas presents, that will take all day!

Ann you might be interested in this, I have several bug houses around the garden and I thought this would give the ladybirds etc. somewhere safe to winter. Only problem is that the woodpecker sees them as a meal on a plate and spends most of the day going from box to box eating everything it can find in them. Not sure now that they are such a good idea!

Happy Christmas

Hi all,
Yes, I'm still around, although very busy with Xmas and buying presents. Haven't finished all my cards yet, but most of the overseas are away so local ones don't take so long in the post.
Yesterday I made our Xmas cake and forgot it in the oven - result a fine burnt offering!
Decided to try again today at my Xmas cake. My garanddaughter phoned to say she was coming round. Well glad she did because my mixing machine has broken down and I don't have enough strength in my arms to make big cakes like the Xmas cake. Anyway I've taken it out of the oven and it looks lovely, thanks to Linda finishing it off for me. She also finished decorating the Xmas tree. What should I do wihout her?
Thinking of you all,
Love Sylvia xxx BG

Well ladies, are you all now ready for christmas? We were, until four days after I finished decorating the tree the lights decided to blow. I like white lights and the tree isn't that big so 20 is enough lights. of course, now we can't find a set of 20 white. Then, when we do we have to somehow get the old lights off and the new ones on without disturbing the decorations. Should be fun.

We went out for lunch today, met our friends in Ross on Wye for a carvery and to exchange presents. Had a nice meal, 3 courses, home made pate to start then roast beef and all the vegetables etc and the sticky toffee pudding. I shant be getting on the scales tomorrow. It was nice to meet up anyway and catch up with their news. Next Thursday we are out with golf friend for a Chinese and the following weekend we are down at our daughters.

Well here we are in December already where does the time go. Frosts and sunny days, just the type of weather I love. Still have a few Christmas cards to make, but should get them finished by middle of the week. Spent the weekend looking after 3 of the grandchildren and again next weekend, so must get my Christmas shopping organised.
Have nearly finished making a stocking for the newest granddaughter, but still have a couple of presents to make, 2 of the granddaughters want a padded board for their bedrooms to display things on. Why oh why do I leave things to the last minute!!

Hi Sylvia sorry to hear about the theft of your purse, as you say it is such a lot of money to lose, but at least you and your credit cards are safe.

Quite chilly here again today, still no central heating, hopefully by the weekend cannot wait at least the sitting/dinning rooms are warm as we have log burners in both rooms. Jill hope the packing is going well not long now till you move.

Still only have 2 Christmas cards made, but have just finished another felt advent calendar now that is done will start on the cards - hopefully!!

Hi all,
Once again problems with the pc, but not mine but GRs this time, anyway now sorted out.
Everybody who sees our bedroom says what a difference it makes turning it round more light. I'm glad it is done. Just need to set up the dressing table and a few odds and ends - the wall looks bare so must have some pictures there.
I had my purse stolen with more than 300 Euros which is quite a lot of money. They left all my credit cards and a local drug store phoned me to say that they have found my purse. Johan went and picked it up but of course no money. I don't know how they managed to get hold of my purse. I was on my scootmobile and had it in a net shopping bag in frnt of me. I went to the police this moirning because I have tbeen trying to arrange things by internet and telephone but had to go peronally. No good, I cannot claim from the insurance people.
I found a Turkish man to put my flower bulbs in the ground. I love to see the bulbs coming out in the spring. I bought tulips, narcissus. and crocus.
I wish you all the best with your move Jill. I am still behind with everything since we moved, forgetting which day it is, thinking we have an upstairs, silly me again.
Just need more time to sort things out. Thank God that Johan is reasonably well at the moment as he is a great help. My sister in law has altered my big curtains for me and because she is a dressmaker doesn't take so long as it would me doing the job.
Love from us, syl xxx

Home from the holidays, we had a lovely time. Glad to be back, but my grandson was very sad to find his 3 year old hamster had died whilst we were away, so yesterday we had a burial ceremony for her, daughter had kept it in the freezer as he wanted to bury it himself. It was very sad, but I took him to get another one to cheer him up.

Lovely to see you back on here Sylvia and as you say lovely to have some mild weather, pity about all the rain though. Ann, I think we will pay for the nice autumn with a nasty winter again. Johan must have been worn out helping to move your bedroom round, he should have left it to the young ones and just supervised!
Take care

Joxx

Hello Sylvia, glad you were able to get on. Poor Johan of course he is slow compared to the boys, they are a lot younger than him. It is nice to have mild weather so late, I think we may suffer for it later though.

Hi all,
What an Inidian summer we are having, like this until Xmas and then warmer will suit me nicely!
I had to contact GR because I couldn't access my site - forgotten password, but now is ok.
Love and best wishes, syl xxx :-) ;-)

Hallo,
So once again I'm able to access the site. I couldn't remember my pass number, stupid me.
It has been nice catching up reading all the letters up to now.
My daughter has been keeping me up to date from Thailand where she is at the moment for 3 weeks, but now no mails for a f ew days. She has hurt her ankle and there is a lot of flooding out there. I hope she writes soon.
Last weekend two of my son in laws changed our bedroom around so that it is a bit lighter and bigger. Johan helpt but is so slow compared with the boys.
Well must do some more catching up.
love to you all. syl xxx

Well here we are on holiday in Cornwall, 2 lovely days and then today it has been torrential rain and strong winds all day still what can you expect for October. The grandchildren are having a great time and we have managed to get onto the beach every day so we have had great fun. Hope there is not too much rain tomorrow!
