Talking of the Devil!!

A Priest advised Voltaire on his death bed, to 'renounce the Devil. Replied Voltaire, ' Now, Now, my good man, this is no time to be making new enemies'!

It is like a battlefield at rest - nothing but corpses & the crows that pick at them.

The devil is loose. Take care of yourself.

Next to a battle lost,
The saddest thing is a battle won.

Saw this and thought it was good

Love may be a fools paradise,
But it is the only paradise we know on this troubled planet

The Americans are a funny lot; they drink whiskey to keep them warm; then they put some ice in it to keep it cool; they put some sugar in it to make it sweet; and then they put a slice of lemon in it to make it sour.

Then they say "here's to you" and drink it themselves.

(B. N. Chakravaty).

Hello Every one,
I have been very busy for the last week or two and my sister from Bath in the UK us visiting with her husband for 5 or 6 days tomorrow...we have not seen each other for more than 18 months so really looking forward to have some time together.
I will ask her what her favourite poems etc are and add them on here when she goes home.

Just a quick two that I was told recently

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me !!

We all get heavier as we get older, because there is a lot more info in our head. Thats my story and I am sticking to it.

i am sure we can all relate to this by Pam Ayres

DUMP IT

Have you in your cupboards dusty medicines, grown old and fusty
kept for some forgotten pain, in case it should come back again
Or tablets very kindly lent, by whathisname whereever he went, which cured his sinus like a charm, but never touched your broken arm

Take the packages, so neat, the courses you did not complete, any job that's now been jobbed, for anything that ached of throbbed.
Soothing jars of ancient unctions, meant for bits that have ceased to function.
Any joint that loudly creaked, or any part of you that leaked.
Oh dump it,dump it all, far away from fingers small and older folk who get confused. Take any drug thats partly used.
any ointment , pills or potion, linctus, liniment or lotion
Put resolutely in your fists and dump it on your pharmacist.
For drugs and poisons it is true, are safer with him than with you !!

From Pam Ayres for all of us who never know whether to kiss or not when meeting people !

I want to ask a favour of the friends that I might meet,
to all of my aquaintances that pass me in the street.
Give me a cheery wave and Hello how are you, bye o long
But don't kiss me please don't kiss me for I always get it wrong !
I do not want to do it, I would rather pass you by,
I miss you get a smacker on the ear or in the eye.
I' standing on the pavement thinking Blast, Damnation, Heck !
he went the other way and I kissed him on the neck
I found it so embarrassing, it makes my knuckles clench,
Its a very dodgy habit, we've imported from the French.
What's wrong with Oh Good Morning, or a handshake if you must.
A lovely smile of welcome, or, all right, smile of lust !!

But I do not want to kiss you ! I am sure you are really nice,
But I find it so confusing, is it once , or is it twice ?
I'm filled with apprehension, and a feeling close to fright,
Who leans forward first ? Is it to the left cheek first or the right
And I feel a strange awareness, as we stand around and speak,
there's a disconcerting trace of saliva on my cheek.
So don't kiss me, no, don't kiss me say Enchante Ciao, Good Health.
But I am telling you don't kiss me keep your choppers to yourself.

Oh don't kiss me, I implore you, for I cannot stand the strain,
I seldom kiss my husband, and you don't hear him complain.
So Au Revoir, Auf Weidersehn, Just tell me that you'll miss me,
But please, if we should meet again, don't pucker up ! DON'T KISS ME !!

Jan
