Just had an e mail from the GR team.
They are aware of the problems I have reported (they weren´t this morning)
If we all switch to IE8, we won´t have any more difficulties.

Sorry but IE8 doesnt act the same for everyone so that isnt a solution for a vast many members.....

wisechild Report 13 Jun 2011 15:27

Just quoting GR.
I know that there are users of IE8 who are also having the problems.
Another GR fob off.

Yes, that is the reply I got too, why should we pay for access to a the site and then have to change our equipment when the only problem is GR !!

wisechild Report 13 Jun 2011 15:38

You would think that with their reported 11 million members, even if they all only paid for basic membership, they could afford to keep the site up & running.

l had the same email this morning too, have tried what they said and no, l actually have IE9, so 8 won't download.

My PC man says its their fault!!

Now there´s a surprise Jude.
He probably knows more than the GR support team put together.

Genes

Genes Advisor Report 13 Jun 2011 15:42

Hi wisechild,

We apologise for the problems some members seem to be experiencing at the moment. Using IE8 is our temporary suggestion whilst we fix the issues to do with the other browsers.

I hope this helps.

wisechild Report 13 Jun 2011 16:12

Thank you Genes.
At last you are taking the problem seriously, after so many of us have been reporting it to a greater or lesser degree for getting on for a week, when they have been able to access the boards.

This is a required field :-S

Did anyone else see Barrys blank message just now?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Genes have been suggesting members adjust their settings and/or change browser for years every time there is a problem before finally admitting that they have been doing 'maintenance'.

I've never known this sort of fiasco on any other website. :-(

Joy

Joy Report 13 Jun 2011 16:37

Changing to IE8 or 9 is not the answer to the ongoing issues. Genes reunited staff have acknowledged this to be the case.

Island Report 13 Jun 2011 17:06

Ooo hellooo Mr Fen-Tone

I'm with IE8 and even as a 'temporary measure' I was left out in the cold.
Until my 16.33 post.

I wonder if a bob in the meter would help? :-0

edit. That'll learn ya for swagging :-D

as anoying as it is for lots of us,,,,,,we will just have to sit tight and wait till the Techs iron, fiddle and twiddle and tweak the niggles out,,,maybe they should shut shop for a few hours while the sites dormant it maybe easier to get it done....

",,,maybe they should shut shop for a few hours while the sites dormant it maybe easier to get it done...." - absolutely, Kay, a sensible suggestion :)

I get this message when trying to open my tree at home. I don't get it in work.

However, you can get into your tree...go to mini-tree home page, click on a name and it asks you to open tree builder and then you can get into your tree.

Not ideal and there is a lurid colour scheme but at least you can get on with it
