One from my Dad "do you think I came up the river on a bike?"

Usually said after we came up with some stupid reason/excuse for coming home late ;-)

Roy, thats not a very nice saying " I'll swing for you". It made me laugh though as I haven't heard it for years. The sort of kind words which my father would have spoken to us as children with perhaps a teeny expletive in the middle.Happy days- not - jl

That song has been recorded by a Scottish band - the McKenzies. They don't sound a bit like my granny lol ........... they do a "punk" version. I found it on YouT*be..... awful! :-P

OMG - that is certainly not a rhyme for spoonerisms is it!!!

my paternal gran used to say what sounded like"on a bright" and I always used to wonder "on a bright what"

now I know she was actually saying "Honour bright" indicating she was telling the truth - old Welsh saying apparently

She also used to refer to a bunch of ribbon - "There's a nice bunch of ribbon you have in your hair"

And always referred to a "dish of tea" rather than a cup of tea"

My granny used to sing this. I've just spend about ten minutes getting it right! I don't think my granny had any idea of what she COULD have said!

Auld Mrs. Hunt had a hunt punt cuddie
Not a cuddy puddy, but a cuddie puddie hunt
Not a cuddy puddy, but a cuddie puddie hunt
She's got a hunt punt cuddie!
It's not a cuddy puddy; it's a cuddie puddie hunt

:-D

PS "cuddie" is a Scottish word for horse
