Jax, What I wrote above only relevant to the original post/conversation because it appeared others were mixing two different families. I will start a new discussion for my friend's family.

Has this got anything to do with the original post?

If not you should start your own thread on the find ancestors board or living reletives if it is the decendants you are looking for.

Hi to everyone on this conversation. I'm looking at Eliza Ann Thompson born in Bruton, Somerset. I'm looking at a friend's family so not related myself. I feel I am on the correct lines with Henry Victor Thompson (my friend's father) born to Eliza Ann Thompson (d/o Henry and Harriet Thompson). Henry living with Grandmother in 1901 census, and Eliza has gone to Surrey to work as a servant. I also feel certain that it is this Eliza who marries Moses Ayling and has Elsie, Leslie and Timothy before the 1911 census. My friend would love to find later generations of this family so please contact me if you know of any children.

I'm researching back from Henry Victor Thompson as he is my friend's father. He was born to ElizaThompson in 1896 and appears in 1901 census with his grandmother (and a cousin as well) and Eliza appears to have gone to London, worked as a servant (1901 census) and then married Moses John Ayling. They appear to have had 4 children and I'd be interested to hear from them. Please contact me with any imformation.

Ah, thank you Mary. I will look into this further at a later date. (I'm in the middle of an OU degree course at present and need to concentrate on completing this instead of being distracted!!) :-( I keep "dipping" into family history when I should be composing my next essay. lol

Um, to answer your questions in order:

The father's name on the granny's marriage certificate is Gibson Lee.
I can find no trace of Eliza either in1881 or 1891 or 1901 or 1911. There are several Eliza Annie Thompsons in the births but because I don't know where she came from, I've no idea which would be correct.

As an indication, my mum's dad's mother(!) met and married my great-grandad in Buckinghamshire, but actually came from Liverpool.
As far as Eliza is concerned like someone said a needle in a haystack!!!! I shall keep dipping in and out of Genes Reunited, so thank you all for the time being. :-) :-) :-)

Does Gladys give a father´s name on her marriage cert?
I presume she doesn´t.
Do you have any idea where Eliza went after the birth?

Hello all,

Found the birth certificate for Gladys Florence Thompson :-) (granny). It states that Eliza Annie Thompson (HOUSEMAID) was the mother and she lived at 4 Boundary villas, Boundary Road, Woking. Registered 1st December 1898. Granny's birthday was actually 26th October 1898, so it's a bit of surprise that it took over a month to register the birth! :-|

Thank you all for your suggestions.

As I said above, I got granny's mother's name from the birth register up in London, but it was late in the day and they were wanting to close up so we had to leave before I could investigate further. However, I will check my family certificates - don't think I've got a full certificate for granny, so perhaps I will have to order this as my next move.
