I agree bring back the old tree. It is far better than the new one which I find completely annoying to use.
I will not be renewing my membership when it runs out.

Estelle, the threads staying or not staying in my threads was posted about in the suggestions board by a member in March:
http://www.genesreunited.co.za/boards.page/board/suggestions/thread/1295933

You will see that one response from GR was:

Thanks for your email and bring this to our attention.

If you have added to a post on the message boards and then you delete it after, you will still have it listed under My threads.

I have reported this to our technical team as I agree, that when you delete yourself off a thread this should then be removed from your My Thread.

I hope this helps and please tell us if you need any further assistance.

Estelle, I & many others have emailed GR several times re the NON deletion of threads & posts problem,we have been told time & time again the messages have been passed on to those who are supposed to be able to fix it but NOTHING has been done!!

IF it's that "simple" to be able to change it back for Sandie & Barry then why not for the rest of us that wish to continue with the deletion facility??

Joan.

Estelle Report 20 Jul 2012 15:53

Sandie and Barry - I will speak to Phil our lead developer and see if we change it back to how it was for you, so that when you delete a post from a thread it then goes from my threads.
David - I am sorry but we will not be restoring the old tree. We have got lots of things planned for the new tree, and by retiring the old tree this allows our team to work on the new one. If there's anything you think we should have in the new tree then please do let us know.
We really are listening to what you all say. I am sure you all undertand that we can't act on every single suggestion sent in to us, but your feedback is really important.
Kind regards,
Estelle

Joan, it's the weekend. The folks at GR might have already left for the day.

Well, It IS possible!

ESTELLE....
Are you telling us that we can NO longer delete our OWN threads, or OUR posts on another members thread?? if not WHY not,we still get the Delete box!!
I for one prefer to tidy up / get rid of MY old threads & postings when they are NO longer interesting or required!!
I HAVE deleted postings from several other members threads in recent months & though MY posting has gone the unwanted thread is STILL hanging about,WHY IS THIS???

And now I have yet another thread that will remain in "my threads" as I shall not be able to get rid of when it suits me to do so!!

Joan.

..... it's the way I tell 'em, Sandie.

I try to be polite, but I really do get infuriated the way we are messed about and we never get a straight answer.
Perhaps Estelle is merely the speaker for GR - and is in no way responsible for the hiccups.

Good to see you back on the boards, BTW!

(Did I tell you that Sandie - spelled your way - is one of my favourite names?)

''With regard to deleting from 'my threads' this isn't possible."

What on earth do you mean by that, Estelle?

Are you saying that once a upon a time - when GR wasn't abroken and didn't need afixin' - when we could delete old thread this is no longer possible? Why is this, may I ask?

Have you any idea how much space this redundant data takes on your servers? There are many of us who like to delete old threads. Nowadays, looking at my threads, one has no idea which thread is valid and which is deleted.

Why cannot it no longer be deleted? A full explanation is required, please, for many members!
Your reply is frankly incredible!

I must ask the question who is running things on GR, and more importantly - how competent are these 'developers' behind the scenes? I'm sure many of us have grave doubts!

In the present climate of continual hiccups you really cannot expect support from paying members.

Sad to say but GR is fast becoming a huge joke. This, in my humble opinion, is a very great shame.

However - ain't this the very sad truth!

Sorry Estelle !!!!! Wrong. !

It WAS possible for me to delete my post from someone else's thread and then that thread no longer appeared in 'My Threads'...sometime ago before this 'revamp' !
I have no intention of using 'watched threads' I do not want my e.mail inbox cluttered up .

I think you will find that many people have complained about this , receiving a bland reply saying it was being looked into , but that it was down the list of priorities !

So what is the point in me added to your huge number of posts of feed back to cause more of a backlog. ? ....None !!

Just about to loose another member.

Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback. it would be a great help to us if you could please email your comments to [email protected]. Please let us know what it is that you do and don't like about it. Your feedback is really important to us.

Sandi - with regard to deleting from 'my threads' this isn't possible. We suggest you use My Watched Threads. This is where you can put your favourite threads, for easy access. You can also delete those you no longer wish to see.

I used the new tree yesterday and say i picked out my great grand father under his name is 1 match found or 3 matches found, when i click on it it says 1 record match ...view then under neath you have 2 tree matches ...view.... Nooooo it brings me straight back to Chat board
not very good GR .
And although i initially thought that the new tree wasn't bad i have changed my mind bring back the old tree .. or have both new AND old so then people have a choice .

Very disappointing today to find the Old Tree option gone :-( :-(

I know there have been a lot of posts over the last months about the new tree and the changes, so won't be repeating whats already been said but I for one am not happy at all with the New Tree. I wish now I had not renewed and probably wont again :-P

I don't like (hate would be a better word) the new tree set up either, I've only just renewed my membership on here, not sure I would've bothered if I'd realized what was going on, why can't GR leave thing alone, - If it aint broke etc comes to mind, At least they could do was give us plenty of notice that the old tree was going to vanish. I SAY BRING BACK THE OLD TREE!

One very disgruntled ShelleyRose :-P

It's not that I don't like the new tree, but GR have withdrawn my access to my sister's tree and a few others that I had permission to access.

They decide now do they ? that permission has now been declined :-|

Sorry GR and Estelle , but you haven't resolved the problem of not being able to delete posting from 'My threads' yet... no point in me complaining on this one. You take no notice.

Scozz, I too got the error message when sending feedback but that doesn't mean the team never received it?

I have had the error message both whilst posting on the boards and when sending feedback BUT the post's did get posted and the feedback was still received by the GR team.

I have evidence of this because i received their confirmation on my feedback and when visiting the threads that i posted to and got the error message the post was still on the thread i had added too

Estelle -

Get the "team" to read these boards.

The reason I said that ~ look at some of the threads ~ some people have tried to send a contact message to the team, but got the PURPLE ERROR MESSAGE!

A lot of very unhappy people here.

I won't be renewing my membership. I'm not the only one who has stated that.

A bit rude to take the old tree away with not much notice.

Hi David, we're sorry to hear that you don't like the new tree. Could you send your feedback to [email protected] please? lLet me know what it is that you don't like and how you think we could do it better. I can then discuss this with the tree team.

Kind regards,

Estelle
