I was very disappointed in last night's programme, was really looking forward to Patrick Stewart's family history.
Didn't go back far enough imo.to see where his ancestors came from. And most of us have fathers & grandfathers who were involved in WW2

Hope we won't be disappointed next Wednesday......Annie Lennox :-D

I must admit I FOUND IT VERY BORING.
It was like a war drama. most people knew about the things he spoke of. is he really as dumb as this made him seem did he not know much about the war? did he never here of MP's in the forces.Did his father have a father and Grandfather. why where they never mentioned? was he hiding something? that he didnt want brought into the open.
I hope the next person isnt as boring as this. because I will not bother watching.

Well as far as I am concerned last nights programme he could have done it all himself like most of us on here have when doing follow ups of what your father had done.

So it was boring in that sence.

But I also like putting flesh on the bones if you know what I mean and if you are like him - have no idea where to start well in the WDYTYA team mind set you have a story and a programme.

But in this series the celes are not going far enough baack for me as surely most of us know back to our gt grandparents.

But if the programme makers want a interesting programme I offer make ancestors to them ...... Boar war stretcher bearer and one hung for a murder but second cousins.

Think the present series has been boring, and that they are scrapeing the barrel finding interesting "celebs" with an interesting past.

If only they'd use an everyday person, who's been researching there tree for years, and have hit a brick wall, now that would be interesting, at least we'd know they were really wanting to find there past, some of the "celebs" don't even know that there mother had a picture of there Grandmothers in the attic, until the film crew turn up, all to contrived for me.

Perhaps he should have stayed on Star Trek or whatever, :-D :-D :-D

There has been much made in the local paper about his attitude towards his father. The hype doesn't match the story so methinks that whilst it was interesting to find out about his father's career from his point of view, I think there may be more hidden which could have been detrimental to his persona. The guy has plummeted in my view. Lots of people had fathers who were in the war and said nothing and lots of people had fathers who had a violence problem. Nothing unusual, I think he used his acting skill to pad out the program.
On first glance I can't find his birth on bmd .....perhaps a case for bored members of gr-lol-jl

Merlin Report 30 Aug 2012 13:34

Did,nt see the point of last nights programme :-S all it did was give a summary of his fathers service in the army, which was nothing spectacular, no doubt lots of other members on here had relatives who served in the same areas he did. there was no mention of where his mother or family came from or even existed, none either for his father, as I said, Rather pointless, boring, and a waste of money. :-S :-S :-S

Will have to record WDYTYA tonight. I will be watching the opening ceremony of the paraolympics.

Will be looking forward to both programms.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 29 Aug 2012 12:02

The one I really wanted to watch, Patrick Stewart, is on tonight. Finds out a lot of information on his father and his wartime experiences.

BUT it is clashing with the opening ceremony of the Paralympics.

Will have to catch up with at a later time

I think that it shows that "family stories" should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Greg. had already been given "facts" about his mothers grandfather. These "facts" coloured his thoughts, feelings and attitude to his great-grandfather.
When he found that the story was'nt true, I think that he was too ready to put blame on the person that he held responsible for the story being told, his great-grandmother.

Hopefully by now Greg will have found out more about the times his ancestors lived through. Perhaps he won't be so quick to condem in future.

Added to this, it is an edited programme, so he may have said other things which were not aired.

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 23 Aug 2012 11:24

Such a sad story, it makes you wonder how some people
find the strength to carry on. Found Gregg quite judgemental
at the start re his family members.

Next week its Patrick Stewart.

After tonights show, would anyone want to be related to Greggs family ? talk about misfortune !!!!

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 23 Aug 2012 00:31

I am hoping that as great-granddad found a foster home for his daughters, he was able to have good contact with them. After all they were not taken away from him.

One of his daughters was the informant of his death,, so she must have been in contact with him at that time

Hope that further investigation will prove this to Greg. and that he keeps in touch with his cousin.
Who's for tennis?
