See John, that's the value of chatting about things other than trees on GR which is why we all enjoy it.

JohnLovesHorlicks Report 9 Aug 2012 20:58

I know I am blowing my own trumpet and am off topic. But I dd visit a lady today in Porthcawl who is housebound and it was very enjoyable. I decided to put my suggestion into action. She liked me more than my bitter enemies - a new experience as I had none before last week. And I am visiting a friend of hers tomorrow - an elderly man with poor hearing.

Hope one or two take up my challenge and let us know how you got on. It can be someone you sometimes visit and you give him/her an extra visit. Or, like me, people new to you that you hear about via friends.

It seems off topic, but I think it is a great idea that might bring a lot of happiness to a few people. Families are not as close as they were 100 years ago. Vulnerable people are left isolated and lonely - particularly in the huge and bustling cities strangely

I was upset by the language used by Supercrutch. She wrote: "Not one of you has bothered"

Well, I did Sue. I thought about you all day. I bothered and bothered. And a few days ago I would not have known you well enough to have bothered at all. :-)

John

unfortunately, it seems that only 1 or 2 GR staffers even look on the Boards. Their names are Estelle and Phil Moir. Katie also occasionally posts.

and they most certainly do not seem to read everything on a thread, or even the OP on every thread.

Note that no Staffer has looked in on this thread.

That really is the reason I, and others, keep saying ............. send an email to theteam@genesreunited.co.uk

Because THAT really is the only way that you can be sure to be heard.

You may be sick and tired of being told that ...................... but it is our many years of experience on these Boards, and especially of the last year, that makes us continually re-iterate the advice.

We're not being wise guys, or anything like that.

It really is the only way!!

If you post a thread, or on a thread, and wait for a response ...................... you will most likely wait for ever and a day.

Merklin

I agree with you 100%. Have a moritoriom and give team space. I think we have now had a good moan on "Do You Want the Old Tree Back?", this site and Ians fabulous "Rubbish x 100" site. We have written to theteam@jeans. In my case I have tied a banner from my roof to the house opposite across the M4 saying "Rhowch ein hen goeden yn ol" (which as you know roughly translates as I love Francesca) - nobody has suggested banners.

I hope that the "team@ jeans are looking at our comments right now and planning how they are going to react. I feel sure they will be rattled, but I also feel sure that they are clever enough to turn this potential disaster round before it is too late. And, yes, absolutely, they need a bit of space to decide what to do.

What I would have expected by now is some recognition of this unrest. If they made it clear that they did not want to lose people who only felt happy with old tree, they would win friends on all sides of the debate and the "hot air balloon" would be pricked and they would buy plenty of time to respond to their customers.

Thye have certainly got us all talking. I am learning Tai Kwando before my next tussle on this thread (watch Tai Kwando final at 10.15 tonight GMT - know I am of topic) . And I truly think we are all rooting for the Genes team - however much we moan and may be very disappointed with recent lack of consultation, poor programming and hopeless communication. :-)

For what it is worth .............

Iain's Rubbish, Rubbish thread was probably RR'd because he posted it on EVERY Board ............ that is duplication of a thread on the same topic

and that is against GR's T&C's

I presume that someone objected to that duplication, and RR'd it.

Has every one of his threads been removed??

Kay, I am responding to your comments and your defence of those comments and you may think it trivial to do so but i am prepared to defend my opinion what ever it takes,

If you have a problem with that and think its becoming a joke then thats your problem not mine

but don't expect me just sit back and accept it like a naughty little school boy because I'm not

I will stop directing my posts to you when you stop trying to justify your out of context comment/criticism of my posted opinion as detailed above on this thread

Roy

I apologise to John for going off topic

Kay????

Kay???? Report 9 Aug 2012 14:07

Porkie_Pie Report 9 Aug 2012 13:50

Kay, I saw you poking fun at John on your post but on that post you said

Now its getting unfair to turn the tables on John for his lack of not being on GR 24/7 to complain within the first half hour

A direct criticism of my post 10:51 which i challenged you over,

If you where only poking fun at John why would you start with that sentence, innuendo, out of context , call it what you like

Which i responded too, the rest is history

as for "now ** my case"

no need for that sort of comment/language

you started it if you don't like the response then don't post it

Kay, If you was not quoting me then why did you respond to my post 11:49 with your reply at 12:10 stating

So in effect,,,,,John you complained too late, you should have done it earlier and the response would have been different,,,,so its your fault for the responses you have and got......,,,,,,outa context.

after my reply to your post 11:17

Now its getting unfair to turn the tables on John for his lack of not being on GR 24/7 to complain within the first half hour

And if i want to say FGS Then i will

I don't need yours "woman or man" or anyone else's permission

Just to be clear, I will not be told what i can or cannot say by anyone

John. just as a point of interest re" Owain Glydwr" He and his Friend A certain Captain Lloyd were Hung Drawn and Quartered for there Troubles. :-D :-D :-D :-D. I would have thought that as GR.have responded to the problem and are trying to rectify it,time should be given to them to do so,and the subject should be dropped for a while.**M**.

Got my page 6 back ,I have not been able to see anything on this page all day .

We are 7 hours in front of the UK here in OZ,I did send off a message to Genes about it..
It was not there 30 min ago...well I could not see it.

Genes must be so sick of getting messages by now ,I don't remember there being so many disgruntled members the last time they changed the site.

Drop in later

Hope youre eye trouble improves soon Rose,,I know floaters can be troublesome and a real pain even for people with good eyesight, they can often go as quick as they appear.so hopfully your will,as you cant leave.

the brightside for some still needs work on so hopefully after all the complaints they will still be trying to get a happy medium.........

Kay, FGS, I never said that, That is your opinion not mine

I don't do, ( In effect )

I state exactly what i mean, I am a man and i don't use innuendo to communicate

I also tend to interpret the written word for what the word/sentence says rather than what it could? be saying

I stated my opinion take it of leave it

Haven't read everything between my last post and the latest, but to answer the original post I don't mind the new tree, it is functional ( for me though I appreciate not for others) though not a thing of beauty and a joy forever.

John, as you suggest below shall be visiting a house bound friend very soon, to stay for some time, so I may not return unless the brightness of the site is toned down and easier on my own particular eye problems by then. I am sure though your ability to think 'outside the box', a talent I believe I have a modicum of myself genealogiclly speaking, will be very much appreciated on the 'Find ancestors' board etc.

As Susan has mentioned me saying , people 'speak' how they speak...perhaps long term acquaintance is why some of the more direct posters are not challenged, we ( general we lol) have come to know their 'style'...I am sure it will be the same with you.
