sealyham Report 30 Sep 2012 19:00

Hi is there anyone out there who lives in Birchington on sea Kent ?

JustJohn Report 30 Sep 2012 19:05

I have been there once - very smart, I seem to remember Who have you lost? :-S

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 30 Sep 2012 19:34

Its got a good fish and chip shop ;-)

JustJohn Report 30 Sep 2012 19:47

It is quite near France :-D And a possible site for third runway.

Birchington-on-Sea is a village in northeast Kent, England, with a population of around 9,800. (Wikipedia). Don't know all 9,800 that well.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 30 Sep 2012 19:53

Isn't that Manston? My Dad said that it had such a long runway that Concord could land in it if needed. ;-)

KCC are quiet keen to promote Manston as the site for London's 3rd runway - even better if they were to extend HS1 and join it in to Eurostar.

Poor sealyham will wonder what s/he has started!

JustJohn Report 30 Sep 2012 20:03

Think we had better all own up. :-( :-(

No, none of us are among the 9,800 burgers of Birchington juxta Manston :-( :-(

Can we still join in on your thread? :-S

JoyBoroAngel Report 30 Sep 2012 20:08

when i lived in kent
i sometimes used to shop there a good little cake shop on the main road :-D :-D

JustJohn Report 30 Sep 2012 20:16

So are we talking Birchington-juxta Manston juxta Middlesbrough :-S

Is Kent near Middlesbrough? Must ask C J de Mooi. Or my daughter who teaches geography and thinks Harrogate is in Sussex :-(

JustJohn Report 30 Sep 2012 20:28

I reckon you have killed this thread, Lynda. Sure Sealyham was trying to compete for hits with the legendary Bread Bins thread. :-D

JoyBoroAngel Report 30 Sep 2012 20:49

the bus from london to ramsgate passed through
i thought i would take a gander

it was small but nice :-D

JustJohn Report 30 Sep 2012 21:39

Had a colleague who lived there. Remember it being rather nice and a long way from his roots, which were Peckham. Seemed to be quite a few London retiress living down there.

Loved Ramsgate. Was that where Aunt Betsy Trotwood out of David Copperfield really lived. A rather smart house above the sands where Dickens used to stay as a boy?

JoyBoroAngel Report 30 Sep 2012 22:05

i think that was Broadstairs the next seaside village john

everything is dickens there now that's a lovely place
there's a pup called the Dickens does a really good seafood platters
and further along that street is a italian ice c ream shop
and if he hasn't got the flavour you want
come back in an hour and he will have it
theres two good second hand book shops
ive bought many books from there

JustJohn Report 30 Sep 2012 22:09

Joy, thanks. Yes, Broadstairs - Ted Heath country.

Ah yes, I remember it well. We dined at 8 :-D

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 30 Sep 2012 22:09

The tide comes right up to the sea walls at the beach at Birchington.....which is a fair way from the village centre. Its more upmarket than Margate :-)

The beach at Broadstairs is a real sun trap, wouldn't you agree Joy?

JoyBoroAngel Report 30 Sep 2012 22:12

yes your right
and seeing the children playing in the crab pool always makes me smile
i had the best lasagna of my life atg Broardstairs

JustJohn Report 1 Oct 2012 00:20

Wonder if Lynda found out why this was posted. Intrigued. Got lots of valuable hits, but nowhere near as popular as Rose's bread bin thread - which has taken a dull subject (metal or wooden bread bin?) and turned into a collaborative art form :-D

JustJohn Report 1 Oct 2012 08:15

Choccy Now Dante Gartiel Rosetti is of great interest to me and I shall make a note One of mine (gt gt gt aunt) was married to a pre-Raphaelite minor poet who was best friends of the Rosetti brothers. Not seen yet that he knew their sister, Christina. What a very gifted family.

Cynthia Report 1 Oct 2012 08:17

I was conceived in Broadstairs!! ;-)

JustJohn Report 1 Oct 2012 08:33

Me in Colwyn Bay. :-D

Sea air, Cynthia? We have been to Buxton Spa for years just in case. :-D

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 1 Oct 2012 08:48

Sealyham - when you do return, we can be serious.

If it's any help, Margate Library has a Local Studies section. ;-)
