Why have we become so paranoid on this site that we no longer post names in full
Well I am not scared of the Man

Ancestry
FindmyPast
Sainsburys
Tescos

Just putting in an asterisk does not make the mention of the name any less......

Be brave, brace yourselves and stop using * ;-)

It's not the posters it's GR that don't like advertising other Genealogy sites.

Island

Island Report 3 Oct 2012 21:19

'They' have said they don't mind other sites being mentioned as long as we don't say the other sites are much better and make derogatory comments about GR - or words to that effect

edit. I wondered what that buzzy noise was. Dash those vacuum cleaners. :-D

I do not know,

Genes reunited staff have stated that other genealogical sites may be mentioned provided that we do not discuss certain aspects of them, such as special offers of subscriptions, and that we do not describe them as being better than genes reunited.

Well Annx I have never been sp*mmed. Sure t*t*er is not allowed on here , unless you refer to a giggle.

I was writing to a friend in Cote d'Ivoire tonight about this spa*mming and she agrees totally that it should never happen. Apparently she has £12m that she wants to transfer......

Joy Report 3 Oct 2012 23:19

We can post all sorts of things here now that we couldn't once upon a time. For instance, instead of http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/ we used to type

BRB can't remember :-S :-)

Edited:
I think it was something like www(.)bbc(.)co(.)uk/news/

(I think).

Island Report 3 Oct 2012 23:26

Joy, someone from GR posted on the subject on 'suggestions' soon after the board was first up, if I remember rightly - it's strange what sticks to the memory file LOL :-D

maggiewinchester Report 3 Oct 2012 23:27

I remember the days when I tried to say I'd been using a paint scraper - and the thread wouldn't post!!
You also couldnt mention Scunthorpe, or bum bags, sperm whales were a 'no-no' - you get the picture - it would have been hilarious if it hadn't been so sad.

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 3 Oct 2012 23:33

I can see nothing wrong in aint, bags and whales.

Aint - slang but we all use it
Bags - derisory term for Essex girls, but acceptable today
Whales. A young lady was asked if she had read Moby Dick. No, I don't like anything too sexy. Its not about sex, it is about whales. "I don't like Wales or the Welsh either" :-( :-(

Island

Island Report 3 Oct 2012 23:41

Time for your horlics I think :-D

edit 'John' LOL

Island

Island Report 3 Oct 2012 23:43

No, it wasn't hyperlinks Joy, it was specifically about naming other sites

Joy

Joy Report 3 Oct 2012 23:44

This, Island? - http://www.genesreunited.co.za/boards/board/suggestions/thread/1267253

Island

Island Report 3 Oct 2012 23:53

Thanks Joy, just had look at that and although it isn't the thread I'm thinking of, if we can use links to other sites it seems a bit daft to use asterisks
