Dutch, I've had that, the only thing being I know I'm not entitled on account of already having claimed it back myself lol. However if you have had a loan, mortgage or credit cards which may have had PPI on them it's worth contacting the bank that you had them with. There is good advice on

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/

I used the sample 'letter' from there myself.

the company that phoned you will take a cut of the money if there is any to be claimed, do it yourself and you get it all!.

Excellent advice, Rose. Huge industry now in representing people in claims - PPI, Accident at Work. All things we can do very easily for ourselves.

Only phone calls I tend to get now are "International". On rare occasions I pick up, it is "I am from an energy consultancy company in Swansea (20 miles away). We have obtained grants on your behalf to ........ (buzzzzzzzzzz)"

"I am a Nigerian general. My brother was lost in a plane crash....."

People must fall for these, otherwise why do people still try the scam.

Sounds like Dutch might easily have pressed the premium call button if you kind people had not been able to give advice. Lottery wins for lotteries you have never entered is another example. Fixing your computer. Upgrade Windows.;-)

There must be a lot of profit in conning people :-(

I had this one, apparently I am owed £4,200 for a PPI. Only three months ago I had the last message after three years regularly informing I was being taken to court, about to have bailiffs at the door etc. because I owed the same amount

It's all because of the Barclaycard I have never had. Funnily enough, neither is my name Avid Casanova, as they seem to think it is, and the phone they contact me is an old one bought in 1999, not used for seven years and kept in a drawer, for emergencies, every time I turn it on there is yet another message from them.

Great fun to see what they are going to threaten me with next. For a while I often had a human being on the end of the phone if I answered it, they all said how sorry they were for the mistake and it wouldn't happen again, I'm not worried, it's their time they are wasting, not mine !

Needless to say, they all get deleted straight away.

Oh, and we often get the " there is a problem with your computer " one, I always ask "which one ? we have several in the house, they are all Apples, if that helps " They usually just put the phone down on me. As for the number of holidays I have won ......... M

They all want our bank details so they can empty our accounts. I never keep more than £5k in my current accounts anyway ;-)

It is attempted theft and actual theft, pure and simple. No different from the scum who took my new TV after Christmas to fund their drug habit - probably got £100 for something that cost me over £400 :-( :-( :-( At least there was a bit of risk involved for the burglars.
