It would depend if the Bromley publication has been digitalised and obviously the year in question.

GR has up 1949, but doesn't appear to list a Bromley publication.

If you are in the area where the incident occurred you could try

a) your local reference library which may hold newspaper archives. I guess you'd have to have a rough idea of date or year but in the past I've found staff to be more than helpful if you tell them what you're looking for.

b) the County Records Office which may hold court records etc, in my experience Records Office staff have always been helpful.

For more recent cases there is likely be a closure period or a 'not open to public inspection' on any files pertaining to the incident. I don't know what length of time that closure period is.

Many old court case records are lodged at The National Archives (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/research-guides/criminal-courts-from-1972.htm#19473) but more recent cases would not be there.
To find out where particular court records are held you could write to:- Departmental Record Officer, HM Court Service, 1st Floor, 1.37, 102 Petty France, London SW1H 9AJ. (try quoting the Freedom of Information Act).
NOTE: I haven't used this facility myself so not sure what information or documentation you would be expected to submit, sorry I dont have the phone number because that might be better for general enquiries.

Ummmm, can't think of anything else at the mo'. You haven't given any indication of what year/what decade the incident occurred and that is likely to have a LARGE bearing on where you would start looking and if records are open to public inspection.

Ancestry does have Criminal Records for between 1791-1892. as far I I'm aware.

Hi Michelle. There are some criminal records on Ansetry for which you do need a subscription. If you put as much info as you can on the Finding Ancestors board and ask for a look up I am sure that someone will try to help you. I do have a sub and would do it for you but I am going out in a minute. If you have had no luck by the time I come back this evening I will look for you

Hi, I am wondering if there is a free site for a criminal record search...in the bromley borough of kent?? I am researching part of my tree and have been made aware of a family secret that could relate to my dad, who passed away 4 years ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
