But they all died with him.

I don't think you will find anyone arguing with you about that Hawthorn.

Hawthorn Report 24 Oct 2012 12:53

Savile should be posthumously stripped of all his honours, OBE, Knighthood, Papal Knighthood and all the rest.

But thank goodness on balance we've also become a society that does now listen when things are reported, although sometimes the powers that be have made terrible mistakes and someone sadly has paid a very high price...

but more are not getting away with their seedy actions.

Well Suemaid that is extremely sad .. makes me very glad that I am never afraid to say what I think ..

SueMaid Report 24 Oct 2012 10:47

I know what you are saying Sharron and I agree.

Stephen - I am so sorry that your Mother and your family have had such a dreadful thing happen. My heart goes out to you.

Sylvia - sadly people just don't want to get involved whether they are celebrities or the person living next door. That is why we've become a society that abuses our children and our elderly - secrecy.

supercrutch Report 24 Oct 2012 10:42

Thank you for posting Stephen, that was a truly devastating trauma for all your family and as you said lasts a lifetime for the victim.

The punishment in rape/sexual abuse cases never seems to fit the crime IMO.

aivlyS Report 24 Oct 2012 10:26

The way I see it is people turned a blind eye ..... shame on them they are just as bad .. they were only thinking of how speaking up would damage their celebrity lives ... utterly selfish ., as is anyone that ignores child abuse.

Just seen this on an Arabic web site:

It is not permissible to look at women in the street, because Allaah has commanded the believers to lower their gaze. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts). That is purer for them. Verily, Allaah is All-Aware of what they do”

[al-Noor 24:30]

Virtually the same in Christianity (Matt Chaper 5 verses 27 and 28).

Is Islam and Christianity (and Judaism and other religions) so irrelevant to our lives today? They are all based on true unconditional love (agape) and filial (brotherly or sisterly) conditional love. Society today seems so intent on the lowest abasing forms of love (Greek - erotica).

I think this is something that would be beyond the wildest imaginings of most people. All little incidents that make up one awful, enormous whole.

Had I seen something untoward I would have first questioned my own interpretation of it and assumed I was wrong. Of course there might have been rumours but aren't there always? Rarely are they true.

No,if there was something going on, others would have seen and reported it,I wouldn't have been the first.Mustn't listen to rumours.

So,of course, when somebody did report, they were alone in doing so and, if things were that bad others would have said something.

Divide and conquer was the strategy there I think.

Does this make sense? It does to me but I know what I am trying to say!

Just had a quick look at history of rape.

It was a capital offence in 19th century. Yet male rape was not recognised in law till 1994. And compensation was not in law until 1988.

The judges distinguish levels of rape in their sentencing and Kenneth Clarke got into trouble with "rape is rape" supporters recently.

Whatever merits or not of differing views on severity and sentencing, 7 years for Rape and Attempted Murder seems derisory to me.

Stephen, as you say ,till it happens to you no one can imagine the long term impact on a persons life, and that includes family,it remains with the family for life also.......a shocking episode in your lives.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some may have not come forward to the JS case,as now could be the ABUSER themselves.!!!

****All suspicious activity that includes minors should be reported*** even, it it proves false, the channels would rather know 100% there isnt a case and the person/s are safe,,,,,,,,,, than hear someone say----well,,,,,,, it was nothing to do with me.!!

So sorry to read your post Stephen, how awful for your dear Mum and the rest of your family.

Please don't apologise that you digressed, you really haven't, you have brought the topic right back to where it should be, abuse is vile., any abuse.

Stephen What a dreadful episode :-( :-( :-( Must have taken real guts to post that.

From 5 hours ago:
“The BBC has revealed it is investigating nine allegations of "sexual harassment, assault or inappropriate conduct" among current staff and contributors as the fallout from the Jimmy Savile scandal continues”

And yesterday:
“Mr Entwistle told the committee he had ordered an internal audit of the operation of the BBC's child protection policies and would report its results to the BBC Trust in December.
He said: "So far as I have been able to tell so far, Mr Savile prosecuted his disgusting activities in a manner that was very successfully and skilfully concealed.

Experts in paedophile behaviour have pointed out that this is often the case... People build long-range plans to put them in contact with their targets. These things are institutionally, it seems, very difficult to deal with."”

Sue I love India. Didn't know about your late brother, but very interesting. So many of us will be proud of our ties with India, I am sure.

I think J S was a very clever man. He hoodwinked a lot of people. I was taken in by him, and just thought he was an eccentric who didn't want strong relationships with anyone other than the "Duchess".

Have been watching film of him as an old man and you can see his whole eye contact and body language is wrong. He is creepy - but probably still thought he was doing no harm.

Had not thought about the PM link. Wasn't the Liberal leader of the day a bit suspect too?

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 24 Oct 2012 01:20

Sorry Errol I would not have said that if I thought you were going to be offended. In fact, I would have apologised straight away. It seemed to me an every day word and I honestly did not use it to cause any offence. I wasn't even thinking of anything bad at the time, and thought we were getting along quite well on that particular amusing thread. Sorry again.

Yes naughty were that indeed the case but you quite out of the blue claimed you had been trying to groom me which whether intended to be humourous or not, is certainly distasteful. It would have been slightly acceptable if there had been some sort of preamble leading up to it but no, nothing, and I found it very insulting and distasteful.

ROFLMAO @ Wend :-D :-D :-D

I don't give a flying wotsit about JS in India....did you know my late brother's death was commemorated by two school rooms for girls built, staffed and named after him in his honour for the work he did in the third world? No, because my post entitled 'why I am so proud' was before you launched yourself into chat.

Plus it has naff all to do the JS case HERE in the UK!!! and I only mention it as an example that some of us do know some facts about that country. Plus Kerala is named as one of the top 10 places to stay in India. You make it sound like some of the less salubrious attractions in Thailand!

BACK TO TOPIC...........................the PM who was protected from being exposed (no pun intended) during office was then heaved sideways and backwards as revelations of his penchant for young boys was leaked. It has now been alleged that JS procured the boys for him. That shocked me. If he could do that for the PM then he could certainly satisfy the 'needs' of others in high office. That gets me to the matter I alluded to earlier today.

It appears that JS was a significant figure in a paedophile ring. As he was working with so many public figures he was protected.

Make of that what you will. My own personal opinion is that it seems entirely plausible.

JustJohn Report 24 Oct 2012 01:07

Errol Not if you are one of the people in the frame to be successor to Sir Alex Ferguson. They are quite honoured to be groomed for that job.

Bit naughty to bring that (from a humerous thread) over to this thread.
