I think good may wll have come out of this awful business in that apparently there are now more people reporting sex abuse than ever before - I think it has made victims feel empowered

Julia Report 24 Oct 2012 16:56

AnnCardiff, I have heard the same in this area. Lets hope it blows the doors wide open, and helps those suffering from this abuse.

"And now J Savile is accused of necrophilia (Paul Gambaccini in Mirror today)."

I heard the Paul Gambaccini interview yesterday, and I did post part of the interview yesterday. I don't recall him saying anything about a coffin though.

Can I ask Janet, I don't really understand your posts, it's probably me, but are you saying you don't believe half the reports you are hearing?

Janet

Janet Report 24 Oct 2012 17:32

Lynda- I believed the reports forty years ago, nothing happened since to alter my views-jl

Julia

Julia Report 24 Oct 2012 17:36

Well Janet, perhaps you would tell the rest of us where you saw these reports 40 years ago.

Sorry Janet you have lost me, what reports?

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 24 Oct 2012 17:50

Forty years ago there appear to have been reports as to his behaviour but to my knowledge (and memory) nothing appeared nationally.

If the police had a network then as they do now perhaps single reports may have been flagged and brought together in a single JS file.

~Lynda~ Report 24 Oct 2012 17:59

Oh, I see Sue, thanks for telling me :-D

So Janet, I assume you're saying that you do believe the accusations against JS now, as you did 40 years ago?

Julia

Julia Report 24 Oct 2012 18:14

I understand what Sue has said, but fail to understand Janet's, rather sweeping statement. Was Janet privy to something that the rest of the country wasn't
Perhaps Janet, you could come and explain for at least this one member, what she is refering too.

That was my point of view re the earliest allegations.

I don't know if Janet had contemporary knowledge, if she did she's the first on here.

The media inference is that JS kept hand written notes re abuse and these have been included in the coffin.

Seems a bit odd to me.

As for the investigation 40 years ago ?..
I think what Janet is trying to say is that she believes the reports that have now come to light from 40 years ago and that nothing that is now being revealed has made her change her opinion of JS

Rambling Report 24 Oct 2012 19:45

As far as I am aware the coffin was set in concrete so that it could rest at a diagonal in order for JS to look out to sea... nothing to do with what may have been inside ( other than the body) .

Retraction of that Neubie lol...it would appear it WAS for security, this from November last year

Sir Jimmy Savile's coffin encased in concrete
The funeral director said covering the grave with concrete was a "precautionary" measure

Jimmy Savile in 45-degree burial

Sir Jimmy Savile's coffin has been encased in concrete as a "security measure" amid speculation about its contents.

Funeral director, Robert Morphet, said the decision had been taken after incorrect reports in the media about items placed in the grave.

He insisted nothing of monetary value had been buried with Sir Jimmy.

The DJ and entertainer was laid to rest at Woodlands cemetery in Scarborough on 10 November.

Mr Morphet, of Bradford-based Joseph A Hey & Son, said the decision to use concrete had been made jointly by the company and Sir Jimmy's family.

He said: "We felt it was better to securely backfill the grave with a dry-mix of concrete for two reasons.

"One for security, so that the grave couldn't and wouldn't be opened again and secondly to provide a secure foundation for the memorial when it is placed on the grave."

He added that the coffin was only gold in colour and that despite media speculation none of Sir Jimmy's trademark jewellery was in the grave.

Mr Morphet said: "People may decide there is something of value but it was a steel-casket sprayed gold and I can confirm there was nothing of any value there. He was wearing his medal that he got from the marines, his cigars and his beret."

He insisted the concrete was just a "precautionary" measure.

You wonder where these stories come from don't you? If he had handwritten notes buried with him, who do they think would put them in there, without them reading them, and telling the world.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 24 Oct 2012 19:59

it was set accoring to reports at a 45degree angle and needed to be stabilised to stay in position, hence the concete.......

~Lynda~ Report 24 Oct 2012 20:00

They'd best have a pneumatic drill ready then, in case they need to exhume the body for DNA testing if needed.....

Neubie

Neubie Report 24 Oct 2012 20:07

TBH Lynda the media will always fuel public interest in a story , it's what sells papers.
Someone who is dead is not usually going to sue , where as someone who is high profile and alive may be ignored because of financial repercussions and due to the influence of people in high positions.
JS is just the start ..there are many more from the 60's and 70's still breathing who are now begining to feel ( lets say) very uncomfortable with these revelations

"Information on three doctors who worked at hospitals where Jimmy Savile had links has been passed to police amid claims they were involved in a network of child abusers connected with the disgraced presenter.

The Guardian said the trio were alleged to have abused young people in their care and were identified by victims who came forward in the last two weeks.

Police are examining individuals who might have had access to vulnerable children, some of whom were associated with Savile, the newspaper said.

The former DJ, who died last year aged 84, had a bedroom at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, an office and living quarters at Broadmoor and widespread access to Leeds General Infirmary.

Since the allegations about Savile emerged the children's charity the NSPCC said it has received 161 calls relating to him, which have been passed to police."
