Well we have been to the Memory Clinic and Michael was seen by the resident clinical psychiatrist . After talking to him and carrying out tests she agrees with the Hospital diagnoses that he does have a form of Alzheimer's In his case its affecting his short term memory and his word recall.

He has been put on patches of the new drug cos his digestion over the years hasnt been good , he does have a gastric ulcer that doesnt give him problems cos he has a healthy diet BUT the new tablets could give him problems.

We had to have the patches special ordered at the chemist cos not something normally kept in stock. He started with them on Monday at the lower dose for a month to see how he gets on with it, So far no side effects and today when we went shopping he was walking better , No shuffling he was picking up his feet between paces ,even he noticed he was walking better.

There may be side effects in the first couple of weeks but if he can get over them they are said to pass. If all is well two plus weeks down the line he will get prescribed a bigger dose to keep him ticking over.

The only problem is at the mo is that the patches mustnt be stuck in the same place for 14 days between so have had to do a graph showing each days position .

That's really good news Shirley, I hope the patches keep the illness at bay for many years:-)

Thanks Lynda. He would take me to the Maidstone Meets but sadly now has had to surrender his driving license cos he has had to admit he isn't up to driving anymore.

Thank goodness I drive so have come out of mothballs as gave up my car in 1999 when we both were then retired and two cars were silly to have. The problem then was we went in "his" car so he drove every time I got a bit rusty!!

The car is still registered in his name but I am the sole driver He pays tho for the diesel ..I aint stupid lol :-)

Good news Shirley, I do hope that this works well for him and improves his (and your) quality of life. :-)

It's good to know that there is every chance that your husband's condition can be managed well and you can both enjoy a good quality of life still.

I hope the medication helps him alot.

Shirley that sounds like really good news.
As a cautionary note I would advise having the car put in your name. In theory, the primary insurer of a vehicle should also be the registered keeper. In other words, you, as the only insured party, have to have an insurable interest in the vehicle.

We weren't sure when I contacted his Insurance company, I did ask if we needed to change over the registration as in theory it would then have had two owners, The customer services lady had to ask her supervisor and then came back and said wasnt needed as i was already a named driver on the policy. Am waiting to see what they say when the new years premium is due in early Nov. Am betting my no claims bonus in my own right expired moons ago. I have been told after 3 years without insurance its lost

You may be able to carry your NCB over but the car will have to be in your name - you cannot insure a car that somebody else owns basically.
