Yes Rose - very much a difficult one I guess

Just on the news now, I'm in two minds really, in that I have no time for Putin and believe in the right to protest, but then again if you come up with a similar 'situation' here, would the police arrest them in St Paul's or Westminster Cathedral , for a political protest at the altar against the government?

Yes of course they would, IF asked by the church authorities...it is only the punishment that would differ.

Yes Hayley
SueMaid - totally political but the Russian authorities have chosen to claim that it is wrong that it was in a church - goes against what they have said for so many years!

My initial reaction to PR's 'protest' in church was that it showed disrespect to the worshippers and to the church.. if they were going to protest, then outside the church, in Red Square, wherever, but not IN church and not in the manner they chose.

That their punishment is 'political' rather than 'fair' is certainly true, but they must have known that would be the case anyway. If they thought the 'Church' would be able ( or willing) to protect them then they are in cloud cuckoo land.... maybe if they had just stood up and made a considered political speech they 'might' have got away with it.

Apart from the 'performance' being in a cathedral I understood the protest was political not religious.

Is this lenient or harsh?
A country that actively punished people who subscribed to any form of religion is sort of making a mockery now.
