The main reason is that computer keyboards differ around the globe but, generally speaking, alphanumeric characters are always in the same place with a few exceptions. So if you use non-alphanumeric characters for, say, passwords, it can confuse the system or search engine. Also some non-alphanumeric characters are used as search wildcards such as the asterisk. |

If you are using 'quick search' you can only use one word, so you could use horse or horse's or probably horse-shoe....but you couldn't use horse (space) hair. |
