Hi - can anyone tell me what records I can use to find afemale ancestor in between the years 1901-1915 apart from the obvious BMD and census please? Thanks in advance, Gareth

PricklyHolly Report 14 Oct 2012 18:46

If she was born before the 1911 census..... then she should appear on that census.

So, apart from her being registered on the BMD's.........where else are you hoping to find her?

gareth Report 14 Oct 2012 18:50

She was born 1892 and married in 1915, we have seen the 1901 census entry for her and know that she was married from a different address but are unable to find her on the 1911 census so was just wondering if there were records available, that we could maybe trace her to a different area during this time....
Thanks PricklyHolly :)

Kay????

Kay???? Report 14 Oct 2012 19:16

she maybe was down in a shorten version of her name?1911 census

or Ann--Annie-----Winifred---Winnie,...Jane--Ginny.--Hannah--Nancy.

maybe with a relative?

look for her family members in 1911.

was her father in the army?

gareth Report 14 Oct 2012 19:33

Hi Kay, her family were still living at the same address as the 1901 census but no sign of her, her father was a miner. I have searched by just her surname, there are a couple of matches but none that we could confirm, think we will just have to accept that there will be a few years missing out of her history :( Thanks again Kay :)

try her with a married sister/brother of her father/mother..grandparent/s both sets.

try just an initial and surname--she could have been in hospital?

If you care to post the info you have, then others can takea look as well. A fresh pair of eyes......and people on here are very good at finding the most unlikely of records.

We believe her mother died and she had a 'step-mother' so staying with other family members would be a possibility, Thanks Kay, your help is much appreciated :)

gareth Report 14 Oct 2012 19:48

Hi Andrew, she was Ellen Ann Rees born 1892 in Cwmbach to William Rees, her brother was Richard George Rees born 1888 - I believe on the 1901 census her mother was Martha and they lived at Timothy Row in Cwmbach, Glamorgan. By the 1911 census it seems as if her father had re-married, we know she married George Davies in Merthyr Tydfil in 1915 and her address at that time was New Street, in Aberaman/Aberdare. Thanks

Kay???? Report 15 Oct 2012 08:13

gareth Report 15 Oct 2012 08:42

We've thought that too, but have seen Ellen Rees' all over the country inc. Croydon and was just wondering if there were records available to trace her whereabouts between the 1901 census and the 1915 marriage record so we could confirm them, Thanks again Kay :-)

Just taken another look at John McCallum Kay and I think there are 2 reasons why we've 'knocked' that one out 1) Place of Birth (which I know if its filled in by someone else can be different) and 2) She only spoke english (although I think she is down as being bi-lingual)- but really appreciate your time and help - thanks

gareth Report 15 Oct 2012 13:31

Again, thanks Kay, think there was a Rees family in the Rhondda and one in Nantgarw with a daughter Ellen, we know Timothy Row was her home address, until she moved out to go into a nursing home but from the 1901 census until her marriage from New Street, Aberaman/Aberdare is mind blowing where she may have been. I believe at the time her birth would have come under the Merthyr Tydfil area. Thanks, Gareth
