Is there anyone else on this site that has relatives or friends that have been affected by Sandy?
Do they live in New York or New Jersey? :-(

FLOWERS Report 31 Oct 2012 21:12

My husband's aunt & uncle live in Old Tappan, NJ.
We've been really worried about them & their family, we've sent them an email, as yet we haven't had a reply. Hopefully they are fine. Maybe they have no power.
Fingers crossed. :-\

My son is on Long Island. I've had no phone call or email from him since Sunday as they have no power.

I know "no news is good news" so am trying not to worry, but can't wait to talk to him soon.

Feeling worse I think as one of my husband's work colleagues was killed by a falling tree in Connecticut.

What about you PomPom?

I've just had a phone call from my son on Long Island. At last! It seems that apart from the television and internet, everything's back to normal where he is.

Looks like New Jersey has the worst of it now, with the flooding.

I've got two first cousins and their families living in New Jersey, near Point Pleasant Beach.

Haven't heard from them since Hurricane Sandy hit. But am hoping that it is because of loss of electric power.

I hope that they are all coping well and are safe, warm, dry well fed and comfortable.

Fingers crossed.

ChristinaS

ChristinaS Report 1 Nov 2012 20:15

Yes, fingers crossed Tess, that your cousins are warm and dry, and that they live far enough back from the coast to have missed the flooding.

My heart goes out to the families who have to deal with that. :-(

There is a site member whose board name is Maureen in New York.

ChristinaS

ChristinaS Report 1 Nov 2012 20:22

Maureen's membership ran out a few months ago, and she decided not to renew.

I suppose that means she's unobtainable now?

Joy

Joy Report 1 Nov 2012 20:32

Maureen is a member still, but no longer a paid member, so we can send messages to her to which she can reply.

Heard from one of the cousins, (first cousin once removed). she and her parents are ok. She has some damage to the roof of her house, but nothing major.

Cold inside the house (around 54 farenheit.)
Her sons house has been flooded, but he was staying with his partners family.

She hasn't been able to charge her phone yet. They have enough food and water to last a few days, and hope that the power is back on before they run out (or it gets any colder.

At least Iknow that they have all come through it reasonably well so far, and hope that things improve soon.
I should be able to sleep well tonight.

Maureen replied to my message; she is okay.

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 12 Nov 2012 10:29

My cousin got her power back on Saturday pm. Her son's house (which had been flooded) is now full of sand!

She has lived in New Jersey all her life and finds it upsetting that her neighbourhood has changed so much because of the storm.
Very grateful though, that all her family are okay, even if there has been damage to property.

It was wonderful to hear from her and to know that all the family are safe. But it is going to take a long time for their neighbourhood (Monmouth County. NJ) to get back to normal.
