Fed up with Specs - fancy replacement lens op.

I'm seriously thinking about having a replacement lens operation, after 55 years of wearing specs or contact lenses. I wear varifocals, so I've been considering Clarivu, as their lenses can correct both short and long sight. Anyone out there had this type of op?

Hope you wont put me off!

Did you have to bring that up today?!!!!!!!

I was surprised to learn that the lenses they put in after cataract operations are corrective. I assumed they were just kind of flat but it seems you don't need glasses afterwards.

So,if you have cataracts you get all that on the NHS.

Well i have had both eyes"done" because of cataracts They remove the opaque lens and replace it with a plastic one BUT it doesnt correct any underlying optical problems just makes viewing clear rather than cloudy,

If one has age related deterioration OR optical problems that cant be corrected then they are still there after a cataract op.

I still need varifocals but at least I can see clearly .

I probably didn't understand it properly but was surprised when asked for a copy of the old man's opticians prescription.

Maybe they can correct it if it is straight forward short sight, no complicationns.

Hi, all
thanks for your replies. I do'nt have cataracts, yet, but constantly need stronger specs. Costs a fortune for thinner lenses every time, that's why I'm considering an op. NHS cataract operations do help short sight, but these new new lenses can correct everything, and are tailored to suit each person.
Yes, it will cost, but hubby says my big blue eyes are worth it! <3 :-)
