When i was about 18 Mum & Dad fostered a little girl we called Emmie. she was actually Amine but was known as Emmie
Her dad used to visit every Sat and take her on Sunday to see his family. She is in our wedding photos of 1957.

When she was about 8 her dad made his usual visit but then never bought her back, My parents were frantic and contacted the Social services at that time, They found her with her dad who thought cos he was her dad he could take her no matter what. He was Cypriot.
Mum & Dad were asked if they wanted to file charges cos they were her legal guardians but declined .

Her dad married and had another daughter but Emmie wasnt treated well. She was very unhappy at home and at aged 14 she went to see MUM and told her , Mum said you can come back here but her dad wouldnt let her.

When Emmie was about 16 she again went to see Mum & Dad and asked if she could live with them but Mum had to say NO cos dad had a stroke .

We do know at about 18 she married cos one of my bros saw her in Woolwich when she was on her way to the Register Office

Some weeks ago, pre the Olympics, when talking to my sis in Canada on MSN she said i wonder what happened to Emmie?? she knows i do family research!!.
WELL in between talking to her I did searches and found her on 192.com still in the SE London area but no phone nos. A neighbour did have a tel nos tho so I cheekily rang her and asked if she would pass on a message & my tel nos. She did and Emmie was overcome. she has told me she cried!! her young age best memories are when she lived with us, She doesnt have any photos of herself as a child and i told her YES you are in our wedding photos of 1957.

I have had em printed off and others too and tomorrow I am off too see her in Greenwich with her 2nd hubby and her sons . She is now in her late 50,s.

Think it will be an emotional reunion

Ann she was such a lovely kiddy, very wary though cos she had been through many traumas , her mum was alcoholic and not safe to be with which is why her dad had her fostered out, first on a daily basis and then to live with a local family.OURS!,

I still have the teaset her dad gave us as a wedding present, I was very surprised when he brought it down on one his visits a couple of weeks before we married.

Her dad has passed away but his sister in her 90,s is still alive. When Emmie told her I had made contact she was amazed she said your own family didnt want to know but your foster family still do.

My brother Alan lives in Blackheath SE London and two weeks ago he went to see her. I had given them both contact tel nos.

Its sad really that this little girl didnt have a good childhood other than the years she spent with our family

Oh Shirley that is brilliant!!

Bought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye.

So sad to think that Emmie had such a sad childhood apart from the time she spent with your family. It must have touched her heart deeply to think that not only did you remember her, but that you also took the time to find her.

I hope you have a wonderful reunion together tomorrow.

Thanks .Yes it is sad that that this little innocent girl was treated as she was .

Somehow makes you want to shake parents and say you need to think of the children

I am looking forward to seeing Emmie and giving her a BIG hug . She was part of our family for some time and we loved her as if she was a sister

I too think that this is a lovely story,and well done for tracing her.
The technology these days is such a help in tracing...but it's not everyone who can carry it through.
Such a shame for these children,it must affect them throughout their lives, but you will bring some joy to Emmie even though the years have passed.

Made me feel sad reading this, but I do hope your Emmie has had a happy life since her early childhood traumas (when she wasn't living with you and your parents, that is.)

What a lovely story Shirley, I can imagine the tears will flow when you meet with Emmie.

Sad that she had such a rough time when she wasn't with her family, her father doesn't sound a bad person, but obviously because he was Cypriot had different ideas of how to look after her. What a shame he didn't let her go back to live with your Mum and Dad when she wanted to.

Now you will be able to fill her in with any gaps in her memories of her childhood and it will perhaps help to make the bad times fade away a bit.
