I don't know many couples who both research there family tree, mostly it seems that only one of a couple do it, or do both trees, as in the case in our house. My hubby has no interest in my tree, or his tree, and even when I find things out about his family he still isn't interested.

Is that how it is in your house?

It's only me that does it in our house but I must say that hubby is always interested when I find anything new about his ancestors. He just wouldn't bother at all if it was left up to him.

I realised last week just how uninterested my hubby was in my tree, when I asked him to guess how many people he thought were in my tree, his answer was 200 considering I have done my tree for years, I wonder what he thinks I do for a couple of hours each day, I have coming up to 2,000 in my tree:)

Mine isn't uninterested, he just doesn't think in the same way.
Mind you, his face lit up when I showed him his paternal side on the 1911 - big house and staff :-0 :-D

I mainly just do my own as he's not really into it.

Since my missus is Dutch and most of my tree is Scottish you'd expect she wouldn't be bothered but my Paternal Grandmother was a Cloggie so OH takes an interest in what I find in that department. To be fair she is very supportive as I am of her hobby which is Window Shopping. Just as long as she doesn't spend anything! LOL.

Edinburgh next week. She's gonna blitz Princes Street with her pal Liz and i'm gonna be in Genes Heaven at Register House. ;-)

My husband tells me that I enjoy talking to dead people!

He is in fact quite helpful re History re any particular era, but to know who is related to he just not interested.
However he has told some of his friends what I do and so far I am helping by starting their tree as well, so I think he is interested really but West Ham will always come first!!
:-) :-) <3

The only flicker of interest OH ever showed is when I showed him the 1911 census -" that's my grandfather's handwriting!" - and when someone sent me a photograph of a cousin that looked exactly like his father! (one I was glad of as it proved I was on the right tracks!)

In the early days about 20 year ago,we did it together as most was in London and he really enjoyed treading the steps, when most was found as no new records could be found,,,,,,,he lost interest ,but was hotshot when 1901 was released and took to peeking and delving again, and all newer stuff coming out,1911 a little interest again,,,,and now every now and again when something crops up,

my own tree,,,he dont what Ive got, what Ive discovered or any names Ive said or how far back its gone,,,,,,,,,in one lug'ole and out the other.......unless I stamp and make him listen to me...... ;-) :-D :-D :-D.

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 10 Nov 2012 19:47

We both work on our trees and he has helped me by driving to various Record Offices so that we can research from registers etc.... Last week Chichester and he sat for about 6 hours looking things up for me and for a friend who has an interest in a one name study.
I have found things for him in the past.... notably his grandfather who had been lost to the family for decades and even 2 surviving daughters had no idea where he'd gone, but he turned up on a passenger list coming into Southampton and we have been to Gloucestershire to meet his daughter in law.
Many of OH's links are to Ireland and Scotland and he has researched them more or less on his own.
We both like to visit places where ancestors lived and have enjoyed staying in B & Bs and wandering down lanes they knew. Even when we visited New Zealand a few years ago we managed to fit in a couple of cemeteries to see graves where distant family are buried.

We both research our own trees, and help each other. But I must say, he's been really supportive while I've trawled around Gateshead and Newcastle, and searching graveyards in Norfolk and Essex. It's a great hobby you can share together, and we hope to follow up links we have found for both of our famillies in the USA.
