he was far too nice for the job and the problems in hand - he's better off out of it

Chris Patten was pretty good on Marr this morning, I thought. Entwistle was a good man and had been selected 2 months ago by unanimous vote of all 12 Governors.

But he was not the man to "kick butt" and face this tsunami of charges against BBC. Wrong man in wrong place at wrong time (cf Neville Chamberlain)

It must be sorted quickly, the 200 senior managers must be pruned considerably. The news editors need to be managers as well as being creative.

I think the majority of people want the BBC to be successful. If they are not, we face Rupert Murdoch and CNN and Fox for our news. It will be like being a Guardian reader then suddenly only having the choice of the Sun or the Star.

Are we guilty, of the sins of our forefathers?
I think not.

as was said, he landed in a cauldron, not of his own making.
but to give him credit, he bit the bullet, unlike some politicians,
who wriggle and squirm........

Whilst of course events at the BBC are of importance, they are a mere side issue in the bigger picture.

We must not lose sight of the fact that the victims of child abuse in the children's homes in North Wales, who were very vulnerable children at that time, are yet to receive justice and moreover a feeling that the world is listening to their plight.

Agree Robert - those 'in charge' - including the government - are all part of the 'old boys' network.

Not only are they jumped up idiots, they know nothng of real life.

Stil think Entwhitle was thrown in the deep end though - but by his 'friends'. No doubt he'll get a nice 'handshake' for his trouble.

He was the man at the top the buck stops with him. Lord patton should go as well. these jobs are given to pals., not to ones who should have them

I think he should have stuck it out and kicked arses and put down stict rules that all the BBC staff have to go by..

Edit,,, So much for the urgent report which was supposed to be on his desk in the morning about the cock up.

This present mess came under him as head of BBC,,,,,,,he should have braved it out, kicked a few asses and laid down stringent rules.......

the other BBC goings on from before his time is a weight that had landed on his shoulders without the foggiest,,,,,,,,how that will get sorted gawd holy knows as it will take someone who was in the depth of it at the time to fully understand.

he may have done himself more service to brave it out....

I think he was placed in a cauldron not necessarily of his making!

....but those 'oh so pious' media hacks would have chased him until he resigned - one way of taking the fury off them...

He has resigned tonight..just been on the News..

Do you think he should have stopped and got all the mess sorted out or do you think he did the best thing.
