Heres something that may be of use to any of us at this time of year or any time come to that .This scam supposedly sweeping the country - especially if you have older people or loved ones.
This is how it works: First you get a phone call from someone called Express Couriers asking if you are going out as they have a package for you which will be delivered within the hour. Later a delivery man arrives with a beautiful basket of flowers and bottle of wine. Intriqued as to who sent it you will ask, but the delivery man replies that he only delivers the package - the card will allegedly be sent separately. There was a Consignment note and the delivery man explains that because the gift contains alcohol there will be a charge of £3.00 - as proof that it had been delivered to an adult. You will offer to pay him cash, but he then will tell you that the Co. require payment by credit or debit ard so that everything is properly accounted for. He will then produce a mobile card machine and ask you to enter the card pin no., etc. - a receipt is printed out for you. During the following days you will also find that a lot of your money has been withdrawn from your account as the mobile credit card machine was able to duplicate and create a 'dummy' card using all your details.

ps this originally ran in Sydney in 2008 according to Snopes,
but variations occurred in 2012

but lets' be careful out there, the villains are getting cleverer at duping innocent victims,

if this happens, best way out is to deny you have cards........
