Jill - I can believe it is true if I recall my dau. some 30 years ago. She had to drive about 15 miles on motorway each day and one night came home in a right strop, complaining about a lorry driver kept driving up close to her bumper and if she dropped back and he had to go forward, he would drop behind again! He saw young blonde I think and decided to tease her - although it unnerved her.

However, mother is finishing cooking dinner and listening with one ear (as you do) when I suddenly heard 'I kept flashing him'. I asked 'where was he when you flashed, in front or behind?' 'Behind' said she. I told her that was no good you would only flash the vehicle in front of you and oncoming traffic. Her next question was 'when you flash, doesn't something happen with the lights at the back'? This was when I collapsed on floor I was laughing so hard.

She was and still is highly intelligent but there were times in her teens and twenties when her brother referred to her as a dumb blonde

Thought I'd save a bit of money by doing some on my own car maintenance.
Found this little dip-sticky thing and the fluid looked a bit low. The cap said 710.
So went to Halfords to get some to top it up but there was no 710 on the shelves.
So I suppose it's back to the garage anyway.

Did you tell your granddaughter to put foil behind her rads to throw heat back into room, Lidl have special rad foil at the mo for about a fiver a roll but turkey foil works as well.

Oh no! Please tell me someone made up that story. I'm no mechanic but I'm thinking no way. Going to talk to my mechanic next month when he has the car for the MOT.

Same with my CH rads. I put oil in them every week to top up and they are much hotter than just putting in cold water. Tell your gdau to use 10W/40 oil ;-)

Your tips will be very useful, I feel sure. Noticed today how much colder it had got and prices of fuel are sky high this winter :-(

Was mailing gdau some tips on economy use of her central heating (first home).

I idly thought there may be something on google - but nothing I did not know - but sometimes one can pick up a tip or two. I clicked on to efficient use of radiators and there was one feedback.

I began to read it and advice was given re flushing of rads and then my laughter was uncontrollable. This young (I assume she is young) said she had been driving home and her rad became very hot and it did not boil over. She had never had the rad flushed out but had to put oil in every 3,000 miles and wondered if perhaps she should :-D :-D
