thats science for ya. Always scrutinising everything!

Tries to get to the bottom of things instead of sticking in the stone age. Thats why you're using a computer instead of drawing matchstick men on slates and going 'ug ug goo ga' when you want your slave to bring you a cup of horse blood after your mammoth steak and chips.

:-D :-D

not meant to be funny - I was desperate

Funniest remark was "we should draw a veil over women bishops" (AnnC).

Not absolutely sure it was meant to make me laugh out loud, but it did :-D :-D

This discussion has now developed into one I remember when I was a child. Every tea leaf had to be scrutinised and commented on by grandma and my dad was like Curly Watts with his telescope always pointing upwards. I was quite interested in both but not too sure of the scientific conclusions to be drawn. :-D

@ Guinevere. I wonder if there will be any Women Bishops there? :-S

KenSE

KenSE Report 26 Nov 2012 15:18

Yes I have Eldrick but not in a practical sense. I like to keep up with what is happening and enjoy seeing the stars when I happen to be out on a clear night away from the town.

To infinity and beyond, I expect.

Have you an interest in Astronomy Ken? I love it, astrophotography is my current passion :-)

KenSE

KenSE Report 26 Nov 2012 14:44

I used http://www.heavens-above.com/skychart.aspx to find where the sun and planets are.

I presume Janet used something like http://serennu.com/astrology/ephemeris.php

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 26 Nov 2012 14:35

but if you use 2000 year old charts the ephemeris is probably right. I cant be bothered to check because its all pants anyway lol

But checking stellarium I think you are right.

KenSE

KenSE Report 26 Nov 2012 14:31

Looking at the sky chart for today Mercury seems to be in Libra, Venus and Saturn are halfway between Virgo and Libra and the Sun is in Scorpius.

If astrologers understood the universe they would know that there are 13 zodiacal signs and not 12 - they miss out Ophiucus. Do you know any Ophiucans?

Don't confuse real astronomy with astrology. The former took up when it was realised that the solar system was geocentric and that the precession means that sun based astrology is woefully incorrect when calculating where the su/moon etc is in the traditional zodiacal divisions.

Anyway, which is the right form of astrology? Vedic? Chaldean? Sun based? Chinese? lol

No, sorry, it is another one of those belief systems that depends on blind faith in collective mythology with absolutely no idea how it is supposed to work.

Or maybe you can enlighten me as to how mars being in some constellation is supposed to influence my life? And how my someone born at the exact same minute in the same hospital ward can have such a totally different life? I mean in real terms, not in metaphysical terms?

But it's mostly harmless, I agree. Silly but harmless in most cases, except where people use it to influence life changing decisions, then it becomes malevolent,

"Astrologers refuse to accept the nature of the universe and can only revert to metaphysical claims with nothing at all to back them up." 14.59 Nov 26

Eldrick, what has that statement to do with the price of fish?

Looking at the emphemeris for today Monday 26thNovember 2012
Sun is in Sagittaruis
Moon in Taurus ...at lunch time
Mercury is in Scorpio
Venus is in Scorpio
etc etc

Are you saying that these planets are not where they are supposed to be?

Sorry I am late coming back to you but I went to read my Bible as was suggested by the JW at the door yesterday.Thought it was the fair thing to do as I had accepted their Watchtower, and someone has had to work in order for me to receive their magazine free of charge.

I would say that astrologers do accept the nature of the universe, more than most.-jl

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 26 Nov 2012 12:52

lol

Well, tell your invisible friend with a beard next time you have a chat that I think he is fat, especially his bum and I also think he's gay as he has so many homophobic issues that I'm sure that is a sign that hes denying his own sexuality. Or he just likes seeing gay teenagers hung from cranes, whatever.Tell him it's OK it's fine to be gay, we will still love him. So much anger :-(

Oh, can you also ask him if theres any chance of a new landrover and if so,tell him I will go to church next week and not take anything from the collection?

If he says no, tell him I'm sick of him and I am going to be pals with Lucifer. So there

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 26 Nov 2012 12:52

can I politely suggest we now draw a veil over Women Bishops for now? RIP

JohnLovesHorlicks

JohnLovesHorlicks Report 26 Nov 2012 12:42

Your play on words drew attention to the strange language that we still use. So I think my answer was appropriate.

As for sickness, how can a Sovereign God be sick? I have just stated that He is not even sick of you.

Our human sickness and death were not in the perfect world of the First Chapter of Genesis. Adam (the first representative of humankind) was provided with a perfect world and a perfect mate and the simplest of instructions.

All this illness and pain and death could have been avoided. And after humankind has finished destroying this earth completely, we will all be raised into the sky and judged by the Lord Jesus Christ - both the quick and the long dead.

The way this world is now devolving, you and I may well be included amongst the quick (those still alive in the last day of earth). But even if many years hence and we are both long dead, I supect you will find a get out clause like the thief on the Cross with Jesus.

And I, for one, will be delighted if you are safe :-) :-)

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 26 Nov 2012 12:24

and your point in your last post is....? :-D

Sall I expain mine? It's a play on words.....oh never mind.

If god is close to you, does he ever catch colds ad flu and norovirus and that sort of thing and does he pass it on when you have your cosy chats on the sofa?

Or does he have a magic cure, cos they are always talking about tablets in el biblio, what with mosy wozy and all that stuff
