Foggy Report 24 Nov 2012 19:48

I don't even think we really should have to chat about this, your churches should have and should treat women as you treat yourselves, especially the Muslims and Catholics.

I cannot understand why any religion is still in the dark ages and hangs on to archaic teachings.

As one looks back in history, one can see the evil that religion spouts, and even today it still goes on.

Good to know that I can be seen again and that someone missed me...... :-D

Eldrick, wolfskin and moccasins? Not a problem. Seashells? Only large ones accepted :-D

Stonings? Hmmm....there's always the stoning of Stephen which had a great effect on Saul of course and is preached about. But hey......I mustn't start any quotes ........ ;-)

Thank you for the invitation SC but, on second thoughts, it's been a long, long day
:-)

It's also been much too long a day to enter into a deep theological discussion. Just as well, cos I don't do those anyway - sorry Foggy :-D

Nice to know that you're not making a joke of things I hold dear Island.......having grown up in the non conformist tradition, it took a bit of getting used to I have to admit. However, now that I understand all the significance behind things, I actually find vestments and ceremonial very helpful.

Ann, I guess you could always have home Communion if you wanted it.

If the thread remains in the same vein, I hope to see you all tomorrow......

lol Eldrick, I'm not entering into this debate, or discussion, with anything sensible to add to either side, other than the fact that your last two paragrphs could apply to Terry Pratchett's Discworld series of novels, except that instead of penguins, elephants are involved "

However it was either overlooked or ignored in the general fast pace of the thread

John - I think you may have missed my post when I asked how you reconcile your Christianity and your very obvious prejudices against people you feel you are superior to. People on benefits, people living on housing estates, smokers, owners of large dogs etc. etc.

I remember a former neighbour who would not allow her children to play with mine because they didn't go to Sunday School. Nor were they allowed to speak to them or walk home from school together.

Sue,

There cannot be a reconciliation! Unless he has had a character transplant over the past 2 weeks!

Hence the silence.

*checks my disability benefit is in bank* *stubs out ciggie* sorry can't comment on the other two.

Well after Johns latest declaration, he must have been born in the dark ages,(He,s about 10years plus younger than me,so if these revelations of his happened in Pontypandy (Where he professes to live.) perhaps he should stop acting and speaking like "Andypandy" and get into the real world. :-|

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 24 Nov 2012 21:20

You could be right Sue - still interested to know :-)

Something else I find strange. John mentions Eldrick on quite a number of occasions expressing his admiration for him and his desire to talk to him. This despite the fact that supposedly John is new to the boards and hasn't really had contact with Eldrick. Eldrick returns and almost immediately John launches a thread that is sure to receive comments from Eldrick and perhaps escalate into a hot debate. I haven't seen any evidence over the last few months of John's fervid religious feelings - perhaps I've missed something.

JohnLovesHorlicks Report 24 Nov 2012 22:03

"your very obvious prejudices against people you feel you are superior to. People on benefits, people living on housing estates, smokers, owners of large dogs"

I have expressed opinions on all those matters and I have been challenged more than once and I have tried to answer.

Invisible ink? I think benefits are very important. I thiink we have an amount we can spend on benefits which is far less than current spend. We cannot afford the level of benefits as a nation. So we either target benefits better or we cut them.

Housing estates. I have lived on one, I am often seen on them, I have many friends who live on them. As a temporary expedient, they are a lifeline. But they should not be a permanent solution.

Smokers. Again I was a smoker till 38 and my OH till 31. It was very expensive and very unhealthy then, even more expensive now. And it is very unpleasant for people, particularly if you are an ex-smoker.

Owners of large dogs. There are 10.5m dogs now compared to 5m 50 years ago. Huge increase in last 10 years. Most of new dogs seem pretty menacing (at least to look at). I think 7 large dogs in a 2 bedroomed flat is too many.

What else? I am happily married for 33 years, 2 grown up and respectable children, have absolutely no interest in my own or opposite sex (apart from my very attractive and youngish OH), am nearly 67, and I consider myself Welsh (Welsh mother, Welsh speaking if I get opportunity) and I live in the Rhondda County of S Wales (one of 3 poorest counties of the 23 counties in Wales)

I think that answers most of the questions that everybody has asked apart from religion. They are my opinions and I like to hear others. And whereas I don't really mind if you think I have no right to call myself a Christian, I have tried my hardest to explain why I think religion is still important today and why the best women and men should lead anyone of faith.

And I started this thread because I was disappointed in the vote. And I was interested in what others thought.
