Just seen this thread...I was also on the A 55 on thurs afternoon on way back from Manchester after a week in Guernsey with family
It was extremely windy on M 56 and scary there, but got to Queensferry and visibility, heavy rain and wind was awful...however got home safe and sound as I don't live as far as Conwy...was I glad to see my turn off.

Libby My grandma lived in Rhos ( Llandrillo-yn-Rhos). She always wanted to live in Mochdre because it was one penny ha-penny on the bus or tram (presumably to Colwyn Bay) and tuppence from Rhos.

Used to love shopping in Llandudno when we lived in Llanddulas :-D

It had better be ok for Llandudno tomorrow Suzanne because that is where I work. I know it is only 4 miles away but I have no intention of hoofing It. Tried that the Winter before last, got as far as Deganwy and thought "beggar this" and went back home :-0.

Suzanne, i sjould have mentioned that I will have to go very shortly.

We are having a garage sale this morning starting at 8.00am, but people very often turn up an hour earlier despite the advertised start time :-|

Chap who lived in Llanfairfechan was hopping mad today. Becuse the 55 was closed at Conwy for 12 hours, people living in Penmaenmawr, Llanfairfechan and Aber just could not get home and had to find accomodation in places like Llandudno and Colwyn Bay. He has not been able to get home a few times recently.

Quite a stink about the poor drainage on 55. And he demanded road be upgraded as a matter of urgency.

The Romans ran a road in a pretty direct straight line from Caernarfon to Rhuddlan? and on to Chester. Straight over the mountains (Carneddau, I think). No pussy footing round that narrow coastline 2,000 years ago. :-D ;-)

still hoot in the tunnel John, but not many follow suit these days,
i remember when we still lived in liverpool but come to Anglesey for holidays,we used to beg dad to hoot, and he always did, everybody joined in..

Anglesey has been quite calm today, some hailstones and rain, but nothing like yesterday.

im taking my mum and daughters christmas shopping tomorrow in llandudno. but checking the daily post web site first.
:-D

I was thinking if I was approaching the Conwy Tunnel and it was blocked there are a million detours inland. But then I realised that those were the places that were being deluged by floodwaters like Llanrwst and Llanberis. And I expect people in Beddgelert are building arks.

No escape from Mother Nature today :-(

Do people still hoot in the Penmaenbach tunnel? Or has that tradition stopped now?

Lol John The old ones are the best, jokes that is! :-D

I too remember 1963: also the winter of 47/48,( although remember is perhaps too strong a word for 47/48 as I was only brand spanking new) and the summer of 1959

Llanberis, that's where the Snowdonia Marathon starts from, good job it wasn't a couple of weeks ago OH would have needed flippers :-(

Suzanne Hope your best friend will (sic) not have to fly tomorrow. :-)

Lesley - you always avoid it :-D

Allan - you don't even know you are born. We have WEATHER. I have an OBE for surviving 1947 in my pram and a CBE for getting my dad's newspapers out in 1963. Too upsetting to tell you what we went through then.

One painful story. I remember the coal lorry couldn't get out and we had no fuel at all. Dad sucked a polo and we all clustered round him to try and get some heat. :-(

Hubby drove back to Cardigan Bay and he hit the flooded roads about 10 miles west of Carmarthen.

He pulled over and contemplated whether to drive through one lake, a smaller car than ours made it so he carried on and avoided the detours just being marked out.

Threw it down here in the Valleys for a couple of hours,a bit windy but not too bad.
