I found myself today about to say something on a thread which I know if I said it in person would be fine and taken in the right spirit by the 'recipient' herself, but posting it on here I thought 'noooooo! someone will think I'm being really nasty or uncaring' .

I think it may be regional lol because I have found it the case when living in certain areas of the country that a 'humourous ' remark on my part has led to either a blank face (or having to explain ) ....but not in others.

Do you feel there's a North /South, East/ West divide? Is your humour a bit 'odd' ? lol.

I don't think it's a geographical divide Rose. I can say something to GR friends which might seem outrageous, like tell Susan wiv to 'put the bottle down'. It won't mean anything to other members at all but it will make Susan laugh.

I phrase things in my own stupid way which people who have met or talked with me will get the gist of. Others may see a remark as cruel.

A member posted a remark to me which I thought was funny, I replied with something like "don't you start". The member pmd me and aplogised then deleted the reply. There was no need because I was laughing.

I guess you need to be able to read into the spoken or written phrase the sentiment. Not always easy.

Oh and my humour is very odd :-P

I often find black humour and 'gallows' humour funny, but when it has occasionally appeared on here it's gone down like a lead balloon and is mostly deleted :-)

like the answer on your thread about F1. Sue.. :-D

I doubt anything I could say would upset 'you' Rose......probably because of the way I write......I doubt anyone could read anything sinister in anything I write.....

There are usually many ways to stress inflections in posts.....I usually get it right....but not all the time. :-D

Sometimes it will be down to the mood a person is in.....in my opinion, that is.

Edit:- I think anyone would know if I was annoyed :-D

I find written humour to be better since if I say anything I get the emphasis and tone wrong and it gets taken the wrong way.
In fact I often get annoyed when someone tells me that something I said meant that I said it it because I was thinking something different when nothing was further from the truth.

I don´t think there is a regional divide to humour although some things may be funny to people of an area.
It´s an individual thing really.

A bit like me talking to Saga cruises and they said that they were sorry that Mum would not be on the final sail of Saga Ruby in Jan......Me not thinking said if she pops it quick enough she might make it but she won´t need a cabin ! ;-) It was met by silence for awhile.

No humour is certainly an individual thing.

I am a Sagi too and I like a good laugh :-D

I don't think it's regional although I do love northern comics & I am a Southerner Think it's the accents that attract me

The written word is often taken the wrong way I think because the facial expressions and intonation is lacking

I do enjoy the banter and jokes on here :-D :-D :-D

AnninGlos Report 25 Nov 2012 22:16

Uzzi :-D :-

I think I rarely would fail to see that what was said was meant as a joke by most people who I have 'known' on here for several years. I think we get to recognise individual humour. It is more difficult when somebody is new to the boards. A lot of humour is tongue in cheek and sometimes gallows humour but zi hope people recognise my own sense of humour too.
I don't actually think the difference is between north south though, we'll not in the written word anyway.
