The mention of 1287 made me think of Prince Madoc. He is thought by many to have discovered America in about 1170. Documentary evidence says he sailed from a little jetty in Rhos on Sea at the mouth of the river Conwy.

Thos who know the area will be aware that the River Conwy flows to the sea between Deganwy and Conwy, And in 1300's, the Welsh had a castle in Deganwy and the English built the rather impressive Conwy Castle. And the wide river kept the two warring sides apart.

Between 1170 and 1300, there was a massive flood which redirected the course of the Conwy from across the Conwy Morfa (golf links) and down to Rhos near the fishermen's chapel to its present course.

1287 might be when that flood occurred.

I have posted this bit of useless information before.

In 1287 there was an enormous storm in the Channel.It closed the port of Hastings and moved the course of the Eastern Rother by many miles,17 I think.

In 1307 there was similar weather to that we have experienced recently which led to the Great Famine. Were we living in the same sort of situation now we would be looking to take action we might not be too happy about.

Was it over 10,000 deaths in total. And masses of livestock and destruction of homes.

Yes I saw that on the news last night..supposed to be every 200 years.

It looked really horrendous..thank goodness we don't get them as bad nowadays
