I was talking to my son in Oz this morning and asking about the children.
The 11 year old is graduating this year and going to high school.
Requirement ... iPad.....as well as the $ 600 s worth of books, same amount for uniform and $ 60 school apps.Wonder if low earners get help with these costs, especially those with big families
.
She is having iPad 4...didn't even know it was out, wasn't it only this year that no 3 came out?

...makes you wonder how we ever learnt anything doesn't it?

I needed new shoes, new blouse, new PE kit, satchel (before they were a 'fashion'item) and second hand gymslip, blazer and hockey boots!!

My grandmother only required a slate and chalk :-(

She did win a bronze medal 5yrs never absent never late and she had to walk several miles to school - bet there's not many who could equal that now :-)

Pumps and cap for me. Raised a few eyes when I cycled past Bantock Park ;-)

Was allowed underpants.

It's the same in the good schools in the States plus all the costs of the sports they are expected to undertake.

I don't think educational opportunities are on a level playing field in developed countries anymore.
