Took our prescriptions in for renewal today, thanks Julia, also reminded daughter but she said their were under control.

A good point! Remember that most 'blister' packs have 28 tablets and that December has 31 days. You'll be 3 tablets short if you think in terms of a calender month. ;-)

Ann, for my birthday youngest bought me a load of Welsh sirloin steaks, those will be ideal for a quickly prepared meal on Xmas day :-D

It will be the first Xmas Day and Boxing day OH hasn't worked for quite a few years.

Just a reminder to those with diabetes and who drive. For those taking any medication for diabetes It is illegal to drive with a blood sugar level under 5. It is also required that such people check their blood sugars pre driving!

Julia I think daughter lost some weight after her cancer op RT etc and the change in diet for diabetes, but she was already trying to lose weight before that ( a year ago almost she was diagnosed with both), so she was pleased about dropping a couple of dress sizes. But, she has stabilised the weight now and maintains the lower weight.

Sue, that is a good idea of Ann's re Christmas Eve meal, and pickies for the next day.
Ann, I too am not losing weight with my Diabetic medication and smaller portions etc. In fact, I was considering putting up a post about it. I think after the holiday is over, I will book an appointment with the GP, unless I go to St Elsewhere, in between times.

Clever pharmacy you have Chris. Shall get ours this week. And buy the Gavilast I most likely will need over Christmas!! Good thread Julia, anyone else think of anything.


We enjoyed our christmas last year Sue. we cooked a small turkey on Christmas eve and had the hot meal. then christmas day we had all the cold meat to eat with cheese and pickles etc. Loved it. This year going to daughter's and she has very little appetitite these days. She thinks due to the tamoxifan tablets she takes rather than the meds she takes for diabetes. So the meals will be smaller than usual probably but very tasty as she enjoys small amounts of nice things. (she is not losing weight).

I put my monthly order in mid Nov - intending to put Dec order in early Dec - however OH came home with a plastic carrier bag full in Nov - pharmacy (attached to surgery) had automatically doubled up for Christmas.

I have to see my GP re the morphine as they are still tinkering with dosages. As we'll be at the house over Xmas I have to make sure I get sufficient because I am not sure when I'll go back to the coast.

We are not having a traditional dinner this year. We'll go to see grandson Xmas morning for a few hours then come back to the house and do as we please :-D

Himself is working Xmas Eve and I don't want to load him with shopping on top of working 12 hours.

I think it is one those things we think "Oh I'll get to that when I have done all the shopping", always in the back of the mind to do, but easily missed, until it is too late.
I had mine renewed on the 15th November, so takes me through to 15 January, but I will still need my Morphine, which I have to ask for monthly.
Apart from the shopping that you have in mind for you Christmas celebrations, don't forget to have in some Paracetamols or whatever you take, and stomach preparation. aswell as having plasters etc. stocked up. And the batteries if you are buying a present that will require them.
Oh, and not to put a downer on things, have a list of emergency phone numbers to hand. If you are on meters for gas and electricity, make sure you are well in credit. You don't want it going off during that mammoth turkey cooking session.
And, enjoy it all. We have earned it.

Just a gentle reminder that, as we now have only three weeks to go to the big day, and have loads of things to organize and think about, please do not forget your repeat prescriptions. Also those of elderly relatives and neighbours, who may be struggling.
Having done all my wrapping etc, I am now in my get everything organized mood, and have lists of "TO DO",I thought I would put this up as it is on my list.
