You know those people who don't seem to fit anywhere on your tree. I will be one of those for future generations.

Truly the woman who never did, there is hardly any documentary evidence of my existence.

How lovely to think I will be a pain in the bum for generations to come.

Those are the ones I most enjoy researching.

One of my fathers cousins Doris is such a one.

Born 1907 in London to Great Aunt Louisa Wenham, who had by the 1911 census become a widow & changed her name to Gwen Wheeler, without a bit of family knowledge would have been impossible to find at all.

I have never found a marriage, so have taken the family 'knowledge' to be true, but no proof.

It is said that Doris's father was a married American Senator, who went by the name Wheeler whilst in England. It does seem quite possible as Doris had a private education & suddenly 'Gwen' the farm labourers daughter came into money & brought her own sweet shop.

Doris never married, though was engaged twice, both men died whilst serving their country. She lead an active social life, we have photo's of her at several Society Balls. My earliest memories of her are of a very well dressed woman who always smelt nicely of expensive perfume. She was a fund raiser for the NSPCA.

I know that she left no children, so might not be actively sought in the future, but it is possible that the families of her American Half sisters might have been told of her existence & get curious. We were told that the family knew & had contact with her, but if that was true we do not know.

My main contact with her was in her later years, but I loved that elderly, eccentric lady.

Like her you are more than barely here, it is up to you to pad out your basic facts & add your life story to your tree for the future.

What? Somebody as mean as me. I will make the old one last as long as possible and then look round to see if there is a monia sale on anywhere.

I have to admit, Sharron, that I thought you meant barely 'here' here and thought 'not like Sharron to do a won't somebody dance with me' thread. See, I rushed in to see if you needed mulching and found that you are a fragment of my imagination who wants to be buried as Keith Moon.

Nice to see that Foggy has recovered from his hangover :-D :-D
