At my brother in laws burial in a woodland plot, 4 years ago, my sister asked her son to take photographs. Even though she'd asked him,to take the photo's, they both thought it a bit weird, and my nephew got strange looks from some of the guests.
However, it's lovely to have the pictures.
The whole burial was unusual. My sister had no 'organiser' she did it al herself. Friends read poems and told stories. Bil was taken to the plot on a horse & cart - that's a farm type horse & open cart, not fancy horses with plumes.

Hi Linda
sorry wasn't ignoring your Hi, but I just popped on for a few minutes when I commented and only back on now hours later !!
This would have been great for me a few years back when my father died and we couldn't make it over for the funeral. That said the woodlands project where he's buried did send some lovely pictures to me to show me the lovely set up they have there (It's one of those places where they bury you then plant a tree rather than a cemetary).
I do feel though many people will always find they are too busy to attend in the future, and will just check out the website later when they have a few minutes free....and then in years to come not even that either no doubt.

Another newish thing for funerals is to have a photographer.

It may sound odd, but the photographer is very unobstrusive and takes photos from the house to after the service and back at the house again.

When you think about it, it is probably one of the few times that the whole family gets together.

it was on the show a few weeks ago about funeral directors.

The people who had the photographer were delighted with the album.

I think it would be extremely comforting to people who were unable to attend a loved ones funeral, it would be a way of showing their last respects.

I think it is a good idea. My grand daughter loved my mum so much and still talks about things she done with her, and has said to me i would have liked to say goodbye to nanny nanny but i was too young to go to her funeral. So if it had been videoed she could have watched it now and said her goodbyes..

I have a recording of my mum in hospital the last day Caitlin saw her. So she often plays that. My mum died when Caitlin was 3. She is 6 and half now.

I think it's a great idea....except if everyone suddenly stops going to the actual service and only watches online, when they could have been there then it's awful.
Obviously if due to ill health or just being far too far away to attend then it's great.

Linda........when i read your title.......Anyone else done this..watched a funeral online?

I thought.............oh no, why would anyone want to do that?

But now i inderstand, i think it's wondeful for friends and family members who, for some reason can't make it there on the day.

Apparently it seems to be quite a new thing. This is a new cemetery so maybe that's why.

Yes..it would be brilliant for Christeneing and Weddings too

I have never heard of this before but thinking about it - it's of course feasible

I wonder how widely available the service is?

I suppose it could apply to weddings and Christenings too, there are always friends and family who cannot attend for various reasons

We had a close family member die suddenly in Australia. The elderley parents did not feel able to cope with the travelling there. The funeral was broadcast online so his family in England felt part of the service it was also a comfort for the parents to be able to say there goodbyes.

What a good idea for people who can't get there but as you say, amazing.

We cannot get to my OH's Auntie's funeral due to a very important hospital appointment.

Her son has just phoned and sent us an email..we can actually watch the funeral online live..and access it for up to 7 days after. He sent me the link and the password. We will more than likely be back from the hospital by then. Feel we will be part of it then.

That means that our other cousins in Arizona and in Darwin Australia can watch it too.

Absolutely amazing.
