TV & radio presenter Stuart Hall has been charged with child abuse. He has been charged with sexually assaulting three girls. It makes me wonder if this predilection for young children was part of the recruitment and selection process at the BBC in the the 1970s and 1980s

Now this one doesn't surprise me in the least :-(

OMG - what a cesspit the BBC was - or is!!!

It does seem as if everybody's been at it !
Shame it wasn't exposed at the time rather than decades later.

Absolutely Brian and maybe some potential victims would have been spared the abuse.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 5 Dec 2012 23:03

that's the problem though Brian - people feeling they will not be believed - the one good thing that's come out of the Jimmy Savile exposure was that it empowered victims to come forward, but bear in mind that these victims have suffered mental torment for years and it takes great courage to actually reveal what happened

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 6 Dec 2012 06:34

Have these awful abusers thought they had got away with things all this while, when living their privileged lives or has it been hanging over them ever since? Maybe they just began to get scared when the JS scandal was revealed and they realised everything would come out of the woodwork, they being the worms in mind.

Well Stuart Hall and the others won't have a happy peaceful old age now, will they? Maybe in some small way it will be a little comfort to those they abused so long ago in their arrogance that they were above the law.

His 83rd birthday will be on Christmas Day.

How many more I wonder?

I feel sorry for Stuart Hall's family if they had no idea of his horrible actions and behaviour, their lives will have been rocked by these revelations.

Less than a year ago, Hall was awarded an OBE for services to broadcasting and charity in the Queen’s New Year Honours list. This came on the back of a two-hour Radio 5 Live tribute and 1999 Commons motion signed by 50 MPs congratulating him on 40 years of broadcasting. Is it just coincidence that these named offenders are all working under a veil of respectability? The fact that incidents of paedophilia are so widespread indicates that apart from the actual offenders, there must be a significant population who are sexually inclined towards paedophilia.

I too feel sorry for his wife and family, it will be them who will have to face the shame not only nationally but in the small community where they live, and where he was so well respected.

Apparently the arrest of Stuart Hall, has nothing to do with Operation Yewtree, that is investigating Jimmy Savile & co.

I have to say that some of the people arrested, I have not been shocked at, Stuart Hall I was surprised, but of course that's where we all have to be careful, abusers are more often than not, that person we wouldn't believe could do that sort of thing, that's exactly how they get away with it for so long.

Always beware !

I am surprised that Stuart Hall has been charged with child abuse. In fact, shocked and dismayed.

I used to enjoy watching "It's a Knock-out" It made me laugh so much, even in my sad times.

I hope that he gets a fair trial, and if fouund guilty, will pay for his crimes.

I hope to that victims of abuse, will feel more enpowered to come forward and report the abuse, no matter how "respectible" or famous their abusers are thought to be.

Whilst even I would point out that until proven guilty he is innocent,I'm pleased that the police at last are rounding up those suspected of the vilest of offences. There are many more to come!

I agree with you William . In my OP I should have said arrested on "suspicion" I do not want to jump on the band wagon of apportioning blame.
