Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 28 Jan 2013 06:30

Several reports said that Jacintha had already attempted suicide before the incident so was already vulnerable and had received treatment and support in the previous months.

Nothing condones the stupidity of the Australians but maybe if it had happened to someone else, they would have been able to cope with the situation better.
All very sad tho.

Certainly seems so Sue.

No evidence to suggest that it's directly to do with the DJs...but hey.....let's dig about and see if we can exact another tragedy from this to justify the initial media circus that triggered this !!!

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/result-of-post-mortem-on-kate-middleton-hoax-nurse-jacintha-saldanha-to-be-released-tomorrow-8410869.html WEDNESDAY 12 DECEMBER 2012 The result of a post mortem on the nurse who apparently killed herself after being duped by two Australian DJ hoax callers will be released at the inquest into her death tomorrow, Scotland Yard has said.

The examination to establish the cause of Jacintha Saldanha's death began yesterday and has concluded but its result will not be officially announced until the hearing at Westminster Coroner's Court on Thursday morning.

News from the inquest this morning. Jacintha Saldanha was found hanged and "it's believed" she left a note explaining her actions.

I think one should also consider the ethnicity of Jacinta ............

.......... she was from south-east Asia, as we call it here, and had only been in the UK for 9 years. The Indian sub-continent if you prefer that term.

It could well be that she felt very shamed at being taken in by the pranksters.

I live in an area where there are around 50,000 south-east Asians, and honour and shame are hugely important.

Berona Report 11 Dec 2012 07:02

I wasn't going to come back since how I think I would feel in the same situation is irrelevant to some people, but I feel the need to think that way in order to try to understand it all.

I still don't understand a lot of it, after reading and watching the news from all angles. I just hope that if Jacinta took her own life (yes, I said "IF"), that it wasn't for a reason she would want to consider very private - because the media hasn't allowed her or her family any privacy. Her immediate family in London and her extended family in India, all appear to be confused by it all.Even the people with authority (hospital, politicians, speech-makers, etc) have rallied around them and shown how they condemn the pranksters, who they seem to ASSUME started it all.

Have I missed something somewhere? They may be right, although I thought the autopsy was only to be held to-day - and yet everyone seems to have ASSUMED they know the result before it even takes place! As for placing the blame - I do know now that she was found THREE days after she took the phone call. A lot can happen in three days. Unfortunately, it seems that not enough was happening in those days, for the media, so they kept stirring until we now have a witch-hunt going on. SHAME on them! Journalism is supposed to be a respected profession. How can it be respected when it is used to incite mass-hysteria?

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 11 Dec 2012 02:35

Agreed Lolly..no one can possibly say what the procedures were that led to this...which is why this witch hunt before the facts against the DJs is doubly disgusting.....seems the media won't be satisfied until they get more blood on their hands.......

FGS How can we speculate what is in someone else's thoughts

What we believe or what we would do is not relevant, the poor woman is dead and a family is grieving

Yes there is possibly more to this than we shall ever know - or maybe not only time will tell

Berona

Berona Report 10 Dec 2012 21:49

Your comment was interesting, Jan. .. an insight into the procedure at hospitals. I would have thought that a Telephone Operator would be on duty to answer outside calls - not have them answered by a nurse. However, things could be different at 5am.

I have tried to imagine myself in her situation and I know that I would be extremely humiliated - especially when it went world-wide, so fast. I would feel so bad about it, that I believe I would offer my resignation. I might even want to change my address, go away and hide. However, try as I might, I cannot imagine ever considering suicide...and I am not speaking from a religious point of view. I just don't believe it serious enough for anyone to contemplate suicide. As you pointed out - mistakes are made, more serious than this, but people don't kill themselves over them. People are ringing hospitals all the time, wanting info they are not entitled to receive so putting a call through without challenging the caller, does sound like a breach of security - but don't tell me this is the first time this has happened. I'm very sure that if the caller told me she was the Queen, I would guess that it was a hoax call without bothering to challenge her - as I would expect her to be kept informed without needing to make a phone call. This nurse had been in England long enough to know this. I feel she must have had more on her mind....or perhaps someone spoke to her in a way that upset her badly.

Without her leaving a written reason, we may never know if it was suicide or not...unless the Coroner's report can tell us. What I do see in the future, is someone, somewhere, working out how to make money out of all this. Whether it be by some kind of legal action, writing books, selling items to magazines - just you watch it happen!

brummiejan

brummiejan Report 10 Dec 2012 18:02

I haven't read all the posts I have to say - there are a lot! But just to put in my bit.

As a nurse myself, I know we are under a lot of pressure and are always made to feel guilty no matter what goes wrong. So she was likely made to feel bad, or possibly beat herself up about it. What the problem was with passing a call through to the ward I fail to see to be honest. It's a perfectly normal thing to do. If anybody was at fault it was the person who spoke to them subsequently.

I do feel that these people are being made scapegoats. What they did was childish and thoughtless, but you can hardly blame them for this nurse committing suicide. There has to be more to it than this surely. No person who was otherwise OK would do this to her family as a response to one minor incident. I mean, as human beings, nurses occasionally make disastrous mistakes resulting in actual harm, and still don't kill themselves.

Yet more conflicting accounts:

http://news.sky.com/story/1023320/kate-hospital-no-contact-before-hoax-aired

Now having heard the interview with the presentative of the radio station he didn't sounds very convincing re the reported 5 attempts to contact the hospital before broadcasting the tape.

If anything good has come from this, and I use that phrase with sadness, it's that all prank calls are to be stopped. Whether that decree covers all radio stations including independent ones I don't know.

There is so much speculation and differing interpretation surrounding the tragic death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha. Sometimes it is difficult to decipher the genuine facts from individuals opinions. When all is said and done we may never know why the nurse took her own life. She was obviously troubled about the media coverage and whilst in this very dark place believed she had no one to talk to. A member of her family said that she would feel shamed, so one can only imagine what she was going through. I was a volunteer with Samaritans for many years, and I have seen the devastation suicide brings to a family. I sincerely hope that the media will back off and give her family respect and allow them the dignity to grieve for the loss of their loved one in peace. God rest the soul of Jacintha. RIP
